Hey all i just picked a box of Persil gel tabs at my local British Grocer. I have not tried them yet but I will this week. They are the biological Gel Tabs. I have never seen anything like them. They do smell good. And they came with a mesh bag as well.

The local British store I go to is in Peabody Mass on Rt 1. I told the store owner I was surprised that she carried Persil and she told me that she is going to be selling Bold as well. She sells alot of the Ariel and she figured that she would start selling more Brit detergents...Yay!!

Persil Gel Tablets work really well, I quite like them and I'm fond of the scent.

The only bit of advice I would give you is to make sure you put the bag at the back of the drum when you load the machine. It makes sure they don't end up sitting on the door seal like a stray sock.

I have to say though, I have never had any issues with Persil tablets dissolving in our Hotpoint Aqualtis nor in a Miele, even on very short washes.

I prefer the Gel Tablets to the P&G tablets which you put in the drawer. I find the P&G tablets often disintegrate before you get them into the drawer and they can be quite messy to deal with if they do break as they end up all over the floor.

Unilever's approach while it does require a dosing device i.e. the net, avoids this problem as it allows the tablets to be a lot more solid.

The net basically ensures that the tablets disperse and also drags them around the drum - otherwise there's a risk they would simply sit on the door seal and not dissolve. (I have tried them without the net)

If you lose the net, you can always put them into a pocket of a pair of pants, or into a sock, a pillow case or a laundry bag. It works quite effectively

Well I have to say after doing a couple of loads of laundry today is WOW!! This stuff is unbelieveable. It cleans very very well. I am impressed. I was reading the box as I stood in front of the washer and noticed in the ingredients that it has 30% phosphates....I had to do a double take on that. Gawd I miss phosphates in a detergent and the results I got with these show how well phosphates add to a detergent. Damn tree huggers.

The version here in Ireland is phosphate free, still find it does an excellent job!! I've tried both versions and genuinely see no advantage to the phosphate formulation other than that it's cheaper to manufacture!!
They contain three enzymes - lipase, amylase and protase ( and cellulase ) and some amazingly effective surfactants and sequestrants! the gel tab basically combines the general dirt shifting of a bio powder with the grease shifting of a bio liquid!
Overall it's an excellent product!! I have never had poor results with it!

I like this stuff but at $9.00 a box for 9 loads well it was fun to try it. i did notice one thing that it does rinse out well. By the 3rd rinse the water was clear and it let the softener do its thing with a nice result.

How well does this stuff rinse out of your clothes? Do you get a clear water rinse by the second rinse?

There is a light scent...nothing overpowering at all. It rinses beautifully. I would say that the 2nd rinse is clear. I will have to check next time but the final rinse looked like it was crystal clear. No cloudiness and that was using Downy softener.

Persil

Mike, I use the Persil Powder. The box is in German, with some English translation. This powder has the same great cleaning power and fantastic rinsing. The large box costs about $45.00, but it lasts so long. I think it may be a little more economical than the tabs. If you have not tried this powder, I suggest you should. You can buy it on line. I happen to pick it up in an appliance store that sells Miele washers/dryers. So, they always have stock.

Two completely different beasts.

I am working on my last boxes of UK Persil bio and Colour tabs. I will be reordering soon...

I crumble my tabs into the dispenser drawer rather than use the bag. Can the gel-tabs be crumbled also?

I use the German Persil MegaPearls and the Original Powder Peril. They are my fave detergents and I can get them for about 45 a box. They last me a long time. I also use Tide HE powder. I dont use the same detergent for every load. So I am very familiar with German Persil. But I will admit that the British Ariel does give the German Persil a good run for the money. My whites are screaming white with Ariel. And I had a friend of mine try it in his Kenmore topload washer and the results he gets is stunning. He adds half a scoop of the Ariel and half a scoop of Tide w/Bleach. And I told him to use hot water and he was amazed at how well it cleans. Next i want to try on my list is the new Ariel Excel Gel. Now that would make me moist.....

I use German Persil Megaperls for colors and whites and also use Miele for colors and whites. Both work great and have very very good rinsing ability. Nearly clear water by the second rinse so the third rinse is just for extra. The Miele might rinse just a bit better than Persil.

I like to check the second rinse if I use FS so that I don't get any FS clouding mixed in my assessment.

Last week I tried liquid Tide 2x Ultra on one load - my heavily soiled whites.

Talk about a disaster.

There were a lot of suds in the wash. OK not too much of a problem I thought, but then at the end of the wash cold water ran in to cool it down and a thick layer of foam developed. During the first rinse fill I thought everything was OK but after the water line raised to 1/4 way up the door the sudsy foam came along too. On the second rinse I removed the FS and decided that I was going to do extra rinses. The third rinse looked like the first. It seems like everything is not sudsy until more water is added and then it appears..thick foam all over everything even sticking to the glass.

I used the fine rinse cycle on my machine which gives 2 high fill rinses followed by a spin. I did 3 fine rinses, so in total the load was rinsed 9 times and everything was still sudsy...I gave up after 9 rinses.

I'm sorry, this stuff was awful. I poured the detergent down the drain. So now I am wearing white clothes with suds still in them and trying to stay out of rain.

I like to try different products. Liquid Tide 2x was a big mistake for me. I liked Ariel powder, didn't care for the GEL, but might try these tabs if I can find them.

I learned the hard way with Tide HE 2X liquid. In my Miele 4800 the drum is no friend to the Tide HE Liquid. In fact Miele is not listed on the liquid...it is on the powder though. The HoneyComb drum does create suds with Tide and it will automatically go into a suds kill rinse to get all the suds out. Then when the cycle is done I get a the scolding Oversuds Light lit up. And thats the only liquid detergent that will do that to me. Wish HE isnt a problem at all.
I have used the Miele detergent and while it did a good job the scent is a bit tough on the nose. Even the Miele fabric softener is a tad stenchy to me. But nothing beats the stench of that lavender scent of Downy. Our tenant uses way too much of it and when the dryer runs it smells like a cheap French whore house. And he thinks it smells wonderful...yuck!

Mike, Peter.... I threw out the empty box of Persil. I believe it was from Germany. However.....I do not remember the phosphate content. Mike....Is it listed on the box? If it is, can you let me know?

I agree with you on the Downy Lavender Vanilla. I like a lavender scent such as MRS. Meyers. Great detergent and softner also. But.....that vanilla kills me. Cannot stand the Downy with febreeze. Cannot stand clothes smelling like candy. lol I always go back to Downy April Fresh as a stand by. Can you recommend a nice fabric softner, either USA or imported.

IIRC, Persil/Henkel contains Phosphonates, not Phosphates, but could be wrong. Know my box of MegaPerls lists the former only.

Have a bottle of Tide HE Free liquid and am that ticked off about the sudsing issue. No longer bother using the stuff in the Miele, but use it for soaking in tubs or the Hoover TT.
Damn stuff just makes too much suds and does not rinse cleanly, no matter how many rinses one tries.

Adding anti-foaming agents, fabric softener or whatever has limited effect. Suds die down for a bit, but come back after awhile. This is with using little as 1/2 to one tablespoon for a full load.

Laundress. I am not crazy about the Tide 2x HE also. However, It is not that bad in my LG washer, may because it is a large capacity. WHen it first starts to tumble when filling, I see suds, then when the spayer starts the suds die down. However......I think the suds are still in the clothes.

So your opinion on the Persil powder is that it contains phosphonates?? What is that?
