That is HORRIBLE. i had to turn it off.
They had just installed one of those in the Calgary PetSmart last year. Some dogs don't mind it so I was told. My Parker and Ben might have enjoyed it because they love squirting water from the garden hoses etc. but I wasn't gonna chance it. I certainly wouldn't with a cat if I had one.

I could not believe what I was seeing! How awful! That kitty was pi**ed off when he came out of there! If I had any pets they would never go into one of those things.

It seems that all that machine does is rinse your animal off. I don't think it gets a good cleaning. It probably uses some kind of scent added to the water to make the animals smell better.
Since I am a dog person and not a cat person I found the video quite amusing.

Who would do that to there poor Cat? I saw the advert in the pet smart ad recently and thought it was a spoof or something... Not! Oh my.. Yes, Burger has the right idea... Ughhhh...

That pet washer is REVOLTING-how creul!!That poor kitty wanted out of there something bad-this is what I want to do to that machine-firstly take it to the shooting range--(remove the cat of course)and empty a whole case of ammo into it to "soften" it for the KRUSHER!!I would even love to push the krusher start button to end that instrument of cruelty's demise!I did LAUGH at the last film clip of the cat watching the clothes in the washer-that was amusing-lets put kitty in FRONT of the washer--NOT IN IT!

I’m concerned about the animal’s eyes. If it does have soap or a fragrance, then how do they keep it out of the animal’s eyes? Seems cruel. How do they get away w/ it?

You are probably right, if there is some kind of chemical in that water it could be irritating to the animals eyes.
Personally, I think the old fashioned hand wash is a much better solution to the "Pet Spa". It seems all it does is really rinse off your pet, rather than actually clean it.

A Lavakan, which basically means "dog washer". They are based in Spain but finally have introduced them in the US; the US site is linked below. I've heard of these for a couple of years but have never seen one in person yet. From what I read about them, they are very gentle on animals (despite what you may see), and regulate the temperature of the water. I'm also assuming that the shampoo products they use are non-irritating as well, considering there's nothing to prevent it from getting in the animal's eyes.
It's only viewed as "cruel" because this cat obviously doesn't like it. I'm sure if you put a cat or dog in there that liked water, they would probably enjoy the machine very much. No doubt it also takes some getting used to for the "first timers".
In my opinion, the Lavakan should not used as a substitute for a good old-fashioned bath because the owner is simply too damn lazy. That would not be right for the animal, although they would probably get used to it (and grow to like it) after a while. However, in a situation where I had pets that were difficult to bathe by hand (i.e. certain cats), THEN I would use it.

I have a dog whom ilove with all my heart and would do anything for and they have this type of machine in the uk now and i personally think its animal cruelty. My dog loves getting in the bath or having a shower and he fines it a fun thing to do and often runs and stands in the shower until the water comes, cats do not like water and to restrain a poor animal that does not understand whats going on is barbaric HOW WOULD WE REACT IF SOMEONE DONE THAT to a child.

Traumatizing pussycats is bad. Bad human! You get to come back as a cockroach in the next life. The cat wasn't physically harmed, of course, but it was obviously completely freaked out, the poor thing.

Seems like the machine is designed more for DOGS than cats-At this point would not put ANY creature into that thing-animals something like people don't like being closed into a machine and have water sprayed onto them-soapy water at that-Not only could the water get into eyes,how bout ears and mouths?I feel it would be best to wash the pets by hand.As pointed out earlier cats can wash themselves-only in very dire extremes should they be washed-certainly NOT in that machine!

2) It's just crewl. If you've no choice except to wash a cat, you do it with a warm damp cloth. Their fur's covered in oils and other natrual conditioners that you really don't want to be washing out.

I have six cats and I don't mind a good laugh at a cat's expense, but I don't like that spa video. The cat was terrified. I have washed many a cat by hand. They don't like it, but only rarely do they act like that. I think that machine was designed for dogs and I would never put a cat in it. I also wonder about the chemicals used to clean - do they hurt the eyes? If they don't use a chemical, then you are only rinsing the pet, which does not remove all of the dirt and oil accumulation. I know dogs have natural oils needed for skin and haircoat health. But, here in allergy central, they secrete more oils and get greasy and smelly, thus requiring weekly bathing many times.
Hand washing most cats is not that difficult, and when a cat comes in like the one in the second video, guess what? No bath! The cat is mad already and will be further traumatized when handled, plus it would send your staff to the hospital.

That very angry cat in the second video needs to be left alone. His ears are down totally flat - very very very angry / frightened.
Cats can be incrediably dangerous in that mode, arguably even more so than dogs. You'd be torn to shreds !
