I am very curious if anyone up here might be the "know-all" for Philco models? Am looking to determine if Philco produced refrigerators in the 1960s with brushed chrome/Stainless steel doors? Decades ago a family member had what I remember as being a Philco from the early to mid 60s...brushed chrome and looking VERY like the '63 Frigidaire shown in the photo below. Remarkably similar, in fact. I would like to find one, if they actually existed.

If what I remember was not actually a Philco, does anyone know what other less common makers (i.e., not GE/Frigidaire/Whirlpool) were producing brushed chrome units?

Btw--the Philco/Ford side by side in the other 3 pics is just something I turned up during an internet search. Thought the pics would be handy for the archives...

This Philco interior shot...

is from 1960. Surprised I managed to find this. (DOLLY MADISON Ice Cream in the freezer!!!)
Still cannot locate anything on brushed chrome finishes on these....

Oh Wow! I have an appliance service manual from the 60s that makes reference to a refrigerator with a 'convertible' section that can be changed from a freezer compartment to extra refrigerator space - I had always wondered which manufacturer made this. Mystery solved - thank you!!!

Having a convertible compartment would be especially useful for entertaining, for extra space to keep beverages cold.

I really like the looks of the Philco. Were these good refrigerators? I don't remember anyone having one when I was growing up.

Friends of mine had the Kenmore version of the convertible freezer. They loved it and used the feature quite often.

New photo: I'm getting closer to...

finding what my original post was about! (I'm trying to locate the twin of my grandparents' old Philco. This photo is of a '63 model--Imagine this as a top mounted freezer, with entire face of cabinet done in the brushed chrome seen on the one door. Blue trim is the same as what theirs had. I imagine the top and sides were white...not sure as it was built into a custom cabinet. So back to my original question....anyone ever see one of those in full brushed chrome?

It's impressive how these early 60s refrigerators all look similar to one another, except that each company put their own spin on things.

Jason, it's so true...

This '63 Philco ad--the thing looks like the best mix of the GE and Frigidaire models' styling cues. I guess if you were Ford loyal in those days then you would've bought the Philco (and I think those were also the most energy efficient of the lot). Dunno why I'm on such a mission to find one of these---as if the Frigidaire isn't good enough for me. How many fridges can a person have???

Kenny, that's very....

nearly it. What I cannot determine yet is the door panel finish. What I'm hunting for was full-face brushed chrome doors (which had the blue edge trim as in the pic I posted a little farther up the post today). I guess what I need is to source an old Philco catalogue--the only thing I've found in old ads is mention of them being available in 4 or 5 colours. Any idea if anyone up here would have something like that?
