Hello, my great Philco dryer's timer motor just died, and I would love to fix it. Local appliance guys say no parts available and want to sell me a new dryer.
It's a Philco Custom Imperial Three Speed sens-a-dry Model DE-6G8, mfg code 2x, s/n 6RW12229. I think it's from around 1965, when my house was built, and it's been there since it was new.

Any thoughts on where to get a timer motor that would work in this dryer? Everything else still works fine; it heats, tumbles, reverse tumbles, etc., but the timer doesn't budge.

Thank you very much for any responses.

Could you post a pic of the dryer?

I would just like to see what it looks like. Would this have been paired with an automagic washer or no? Anyhow, good luck with your repair. I know how it feels when a favorite appliance stops working properly. My classic dryer just stopped working recently.

Thanks for your replies. I'll try to get photos of both dryer and timer motor, and see if any numbers are there. May be a day or so as camera and new computer don't seem to work together....

I'll try to attach the photos I just took of the dryer and the timer motor. The timer motor information on it is:
Ingraham
Patented US
3W 115 VAC
60 CY
Series 80
I have a couple of pictures of it, but didn't turn out so well....
Thanks for the hope of repair, Norgeway!

Just wish I had known

I just put this same dryer out to scrap in Dec.Extra motor.xtra parts and all.Even an extra timer.I had posted a thread a long time ago if anyone wanted this dryer or parts for FREE.Did not get one response. So finally I let it go.Sorry It worked out like this.I would have loved to see someone get it.

That's exactly the kind of dryer I'm looking for! If anyone else has a washer or dryer like that, please don't scrap it!

I've looked for that thread about the Philco you wanted to give away and can't find it. Can you post a link to it? I'm having a hard time understanding how something like that went unnoticed.

And Reed - If that timer motor can be disassembled then it can likely be repaired, especially if the problem is a broken wire in the motor winding. I managed to rewind another Ingraham motor for an Apex washer some months back and it's documented here in the archives. The link below will take you to it, but it looks like an older style motor than the one you have here. Apart from rewinding it, it seems like a replacement motor should be available somewhere. They turn up in some pretty unexpected places. I just did a Bing search and found an old eBay auction for a Christmas tree color wheel that used an Ingraham series 80 motor, so with some patients and persistence you should be able to find one.

Yes Hans, it was me!

I figured I had nothing to loose and went for it. And it actually was kind of a fun project. But I have to admit I was rather hoping a few more people would have given it a try by now and posted the results here. I mean seriously, wouldn't it be fantastic if rewinding timer motors became a common skill among the members here?

Gyromatic - I've tried repeatedly to find that thread you said you started about the Philco dryer you were willing to give away and all I can find is an off hand comment about parts available left in someone else's thread, a comment that almost certainly went unseen by the vast majority of members here. That can't be what you're talking about and yet I can't find anything else. Can you please post a link to the actual thread you started?

By the way, what happened to Reed? It's been more than a week since he posted the photos and then nothing. I for one would really like to know how his efforts to get this machine repaired are going.
