I bought this 1980 Philips variatronic, to restore it to its former glory. It is still in full working order but requires cosmetic restoration due to rusting on the cabinet. It belonged to an elderly couple who bought it new in 1980, and according to their son, it was the only washing machine they ever had. He showed it to me working. This model was fabulous in its day, having the unique spin drain where the drum rotates at distribute speed whilst starting to empty then starting the spin with the water still in the tub. This was supposedly to help keep the machine in balance at the start of the spin cycle. I just havent got the time to start restoring it, its been sat at work for months now.
