The RCA console Hi-Fi in Cherry wood in the 1958 film at about the 5 min mark is just like the one my Dad bought for my Mom in 1956.  We didn’t however have the separate speaker cabinet to provide stereo.  This Hi-Fi had the most beautiful sound of any radio-phonograph I’ve ever heard since then.  And it was a beautiful piece of furniture too.  I wish I still had it.

BTW, they played this same film on TCM a couple of days ago and I recognized that Hi-Fi immediately.  It was one of Mom’s prized possessions.  It was on all the time.

When I was a tyke our family visited a relative who lived in Manhattan. While there we went to the Empire State Building. At the top, or near it, was a little booth where we could all cram in and make a little 45 rpm recording. As I recall, it was a greeting to our father, who wasn't with us at the time. We kept that darn thing for year, but I think it was lost in a subsequent move.

Still, it was so cool in the days before portable tape recorders and such.
