Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

A real beauty from 1957, and a SUDS. My grandmother's neighbor Minnie Minorchek had one in I was just nuts about it. In '57, WP/KM was still returning suds at high speed, and it's a delight to watch. Hope you're not one of those suds-phobic types, and intend to use it. It is one of the highest dramatic acts in Washerology.

You must be so happy. Can't to hear the back story.

Congratulations— Looking forward to hearing the back story on this LK beauty. It has one of the waterfall lint filters that has no latch! Let me take this opportunity to say that your washer is two years older than me, but she’s in far better shape than I am, lol.

First Lady-Kenmore Washer

Wow nice score Melvin, Imagine having this all porcelain beauty in 1957, the proud owner of this washer had the best AW the world had ever seen to this point in time, Its about like having a 1957 Chrysler Imperial.

Keep us informed about this cool find as you restore it.

The Story:

This machine came from a 60 year old family owned appliance company. The machine was given to the owner approximately 30 years ago from it’s original owner. The owner of the appliance company installed a belt and a pump on it according to his daughter and the machine was in working condition.

Fast forward some 30 years and the machine had been sitting in their show room on display ever since. The father passed away around 10 years ago and his daughter has run the store since and decided it was finally time to let the machine go. I stumbled across the Facebook ad and the machine now resides at my shop. It is in beautiful condition due to being in a conditioned space for the last 30 years.

When I have a chance (probably won’t be soon due to working a lot) I’ll replace the upper center post seal and oil bearings if still in good condition. May go ahead and open gearcase to change oil and will change tub seals so that it will be usable again. Thanks for the positive comments and staying tuned. I still can’t believe I found this Lady Kenmore.

This is the first Suds Saver washer I ever saw working. I was just fascinated by the return suds while that Roto Swirl was splashing away with all that
"Return Drama" splashyness.

I also like the way the cycle dial clicks then about 3-5 seconds later in will move to the next increment. It was also the first machine I ever saw that Lit Up when you turned the dial.

No Polio either with the Germicidal Lamp.

Ah, the days of Real Machinery.

Congrats on your wonderful Woo Woo find.

One for the record books.

A show room model kept nice nd warm and dry for all those decades. Amazing, This is one of those Quintessential moments in this club when a member finds a long sought after dream machine that is both very rare and in mint condition, and close by.

With Eddie on the Suds ~ Remember after the clang of the suds valve, those exciting seconds of anticipation as the water volume gathers then bursts through the holes below the port. And the Hot Medium Warm Cool Cold--FIVE wash temps, never seen before !!!! My God, head spinning. You mean I can wash in medium or cool. Holy Cow, LOL

I can’t wait to get some time to work on it. It still has the original 2 prong ungrounded cord which has some cracked insulation so a new cord will be in order as well. I’m pretty sure it’s the heaviest washer I’ve ever messed with.

There was a customer who had a vintage LK when I worked at the WP dealer.  I don't recall if it was this 1957 model or a 1958.  I saw it only once and have slept several times since then, LOL.
