Melvin, what a terrific story.  How far away from Danbury was this?  What's the little knob to the left of the sudsomatic for?

This washer was an hour from me. The small knob to the left of the sudsomatic selector is the rinse temp. Selections are warm or cold. I had a few minutes to tinker with this machine this evening. After freeing the drive system I plugged it in and gave her a whirl.

Didn’t sound bad for not running in 30 years. Didn’t want to spin but after coaxing a little it got up to speed but the bearings are either dry or shot as I expected. Timer motor not advancing. Turned to suds and agitator kicked right in. The light lit the timer area up. The suds saver parts are missing and from the looks of the tape on the wiring hanging down the components may have been removed before the previous owner received the machine. Hoses are not connected to the pump which I saw when I picked the machine up.

It looks to me like the intention was to rebuild the machine but it was never finished. The coolest moment today is when I held the out of balance switch in and the bell sounded every 5 seconds.

If it took a bit of coaxing to get it to spin the clutch could be slipping. Had a issue with the clutch slipping on my Kenmore portable belt drive washer last November and it was caused by not putting the 7/16 steel ball back in the t-bearing causing it to slip like crazy but it’s been fixed
