My very first Frigidaire 1-18!!! Ok so it's not Avocado like I'd prefer but still a nice color. Am told by the man that sold it to me for a while $25 that it still works just fine. Looks like all it needs so far is a lint filter. I'm sure I'll find one somewhere. You guys let me know if I made a good deal or not. :-) Oh yah, he delivered it to me also. Nice way to come home from work...find this sitting on my driveway.

Nice Machine!

Hopefully it runs as good as it looks! Make sure to make some vids of the first wash :)

Nice Jon, very nice! I can just hear the Jet Cone thumping away as I type, which by the way looks to have no cracks or chips! Congrats on this very fine looking catch. If I had a spare filter, I'd be on the way.

Talk to you soon!

Ben

Thanks guys!

I'm quite excited about it. It's going to have to spend a couple of cool nights outside. Should have it in the basement hooked up by Friday or Saturday before it starts to get below freezing. Definitely will have it in before that happens. Will definitely be making some videos. Have a good assortment of machines now so will have to make some comparison videos huh? :-)

Congratulations, Jon!
Can't tell from the top-view if this one needs the "bed-o-nails" type filter or the good kind without the "nails". Please advise and I'll look. I found the "bed-o-nails" such a pain to clean, I took it out of mine and left it out! (About like that nasty Whirly "Tragic-Mix" brush from the sixties).
Famously those filters would be re-installed in a hurry and not properly secured-----then they would fall off and get jammed next to the agitator------causing a major chip in the plastic of the agitator. Is the agitator in yours o.k.? That is how mine was, and I had to file down a spot.

Like all machines, those 1-18's have their limitations, but they are fun to use, and no Frigidaire collection would be complete without one. I wish you were closer----I have a matching dryer for you!

Congratulations

That certainly is a handsome looking 1-18! You're going to love the way that is cleans, especially after you get the lint filter for it. It appears from the side-style lid switch that it is one of the earlier models which means it would have had the "Bed of Nails" type of filter. These are still available as I found one on Ebay, others here probably have extras as well.

Thanks guys!

I was kinda thinking bed-of-nail for this machine also. To be honest I don't know how to tell the difference. Looks like it has a "track" in the center that a filter would slide onto and lock. Bed of Nails did that right?

Steve, the guy did also sell a TOL 1-18 dryer w/ lighted panel. It was already sold before I had a chance. Pdub was going to take that if it was available. I was lucky enough that the lady who got to the washer first flaked out and didn't return phone calls. The guy was so ready to get it off his truck and get home that I gave him my address over the phone while at work and he said to just drop a check in the mail. Lucky me!

I wasn't sure what I'd be getting so I'm very excited at its condition. It is REALLY clean inside and out and hope it runs the same. I'll keep my eye out for the filter for it.

With the bed of nails JetFlow filter I have on my Frigidaire I just whack it on a hard surface that has a paper towel on it. All the lint comes off easily. I think you can still get the filter on Appliance Clinic.com. Thats where I bought mine from.

I have the exact same machine (harvest gold) that I paid $30 to have it delivered to me in San Francisco. Originally had my Maytag removed from the utility room and the 1-18 installed. Discovered during the first wash that the thumping sound during agitation resonated throughout the house. Quickly reinstalled the Maytag and moved the 1-18 into the patio where there was a drain and water connection. I use the 1-18 now to wash the bulky items like bedspreads that would not fit in my Maytag A512. Great machine but noisy.

Congrats Jon, that is awesome!

How did you come across this washer? An ad? You saw it as you drove by somewhere? Do tell!

I would LOVE to find some deals like that but I don't even know where to start looking (and don't have the time to look at Craig's list all the time).

I suddenly (and I mean all in one week!) have a "collection" of 4 washers (soon to be five next week!) and 2 dryers. Once I finish the plumbing and get everything connected I will post some pix!

Noisy...

There's no mistaking when a 1-18's around. There are some ways to quiet them down. Any of you guys who are interested in learning how I did it just shoot me an email.

Don't mind the normal sounds at all...

That's what the basement's for. The GE isn't all that quiet either at least when the brake engages. Kinda nice being upstairs and hearing the sounds nonetheless. I'll look around a bit and see if I can find a filter. Shouldn't be too hard to do. Just got to get this sucker in the basement.

One thing you need to check is the length of the spin roller screw. Its the one on the back side that is hell to get to.
Pull the front cover off and look. If the screw sticks out about a quarter of an inch you have the revised one. Gm had problems with the screw breaking, and it was a bear to repair.

RevvinKevin,

Just now noticed your question...

I scan craigslist now and then to see what's out there in my area. The ad for this machine did not have a descriptive title so I nearly passed it up. Then curiosity got the best of me and I looked. There was the 1-18 washer of course and also a TOL 1-18 dryer w/ lighted panel. The dryer was already sold. A lady had already said she'd take the washer but apparently wasn't good at returning calls. He got my call and happened to be dropping the dryer off in my neighborhood. He didn't want to go home with the washer so he dropped it off at the house while I was at work and told me to just mail a check. Easy as that!

Best advise? Check craigslist often!

Update...

Thanks to Patrick...came over tonight and helped us get this beast downstairs. Although very clean on the outside, it is filthy inside. There must have been quite a mouse problem at the last place. YUCK!!! It'll clean up just fine though.

After some scrubbing, got it back together and hooked it up. I just ran a large load of towels through a full cycle and it worked just fine. Patrick, the lint filter you so kindly gave me works great too! Plenty of lint off the towels.

Only issues really are we did find a large chunk broken off part of the agitator after all and the agitator cap was broken a little bit where it locks on. I'm sure those parts will show up in due time. Otherwise works great and was definitely a steal for $25!

Thanks so much again Patrick! You're a great friend and so glad you got to come by tonight and help out.

Videos coming soon! CHUG CHUG CHUG...
