I need help. I've been having fun going down memory lane on the KA web site with looking at owners manuals for their DW from the 20 series on up. They require 6 characters and the KUDSxx works fine. But to get to the 19 and below, I can't. KUD*** doesn't work nor does KDS-19. Can someone solve this riddle for me? Thanks.

Hi, Bob! Unfortunately, I don't think KA has online manuals for machines KD-19 and older. Bastards.
And here's something else sinister! I was going through old parts diagrams, and the "cheapening" of the KDI-21 and KDC-21 machines I sort of ranted about in another thread (the 700W heating element used for water heating AND drying, the plastic fan duct, etc) which I had pinned on WP actually happened in mid 1985 on HOBART'S watch, and until the WP nomenclature ("KUDS"), they were known as KDI-21A and KDC-21A. Mid-1986 is when the Hobart name disappeared off the parts and service literature.
Does anyone know how WP came to acquire the KA division from Hobart? Was Hobart in dire straits? Did WP make a deal Hobart couldn't refuse? Was there dirty work afoot? Inquiring minds want to know!

Thank you guys for your positive comments about my machines. I can't tell you how many of my friends have seen them and looked at me like I was nuts. I do enjoy my hobby and I love working on them. I have the use and care manuals from the KD-22 series all the way back to the first KD-10 (with the exception of KDS-19...which I don't have). I also have collected service manuals, sales brochures and magazine advertisements. Also....thanks too for the tips on locating a vintage oven. I hope someday to have all of my favorite appliances in my kitchen!

I have also got the KitchenAid Bug! It has all started about a month ago. I can kick myself over the KA's that I passed up in the past.
I am working on a KDS-18. It is in great shape, but needs some loving.
I found a custom 21 that I am going to use for parts. It is not so good, but the parts are good.
I also found a Whirlpool built KUDS24, actually 3 of them, that were put to scrap because they just were not in style anymore. All of them I got for free! I put one of them in my kitchen to replace a 6 month old Maytag 300 series that was in the house when I bought it back in December. Although this KA is a Whirlpool built dishwasher, it does not play around. It reminds me very much of the Hobart built machines, and is better than anything on the market as of now with the "KitchenAid" name on them.
Please do continue to share your collection with us. I have always had a thing for KitchenAid dishwashers!

You might try to connect with a kitchen remodeller who usually tosses these old ovens because they arent self-cleaning. I have one that I got that way. SteveD

well now i know who to ask when i'm looking for a pre year 2000 dual wash arm KA dishasher!
once i'm out of college and have my own pad, i'm going on a crazy KA hunt. My first choice is the KUD23 series...it's my favorite.
Once i have those i was thinking of throwing a stainless steel upper arm rack....if the plastic one bugged me much......i'll see.
BTW, my best friend and i go for thai food in davenport all the time when i visit him from IL.

Looks like a showroom! My parents had a KDI-17a. Two, actually. One was installed in the house (built in 1964) in which I grew up, then there was already one in the house to which we moved in 1980. One of my aunts also had a KDI-17a (she replaced it with a newer Imperial some years ago), and another aunt had a KDC-17a. I have a KUDS-22 stashed in my garage.
I know, and it's killing me, especially after playing with the 2 in Tucson. Better check my luggage and pockets next time I leave your house.
Bob, if you're referring to my Superba, BOTH sisters have spoken for it, but NEITHER one has yet done the deed.... first come, first served! (assuming I'd even let it go).

For your guys looking for wall ovens, I have found the trick is to hit some of the more affluent, but older neighborhoods built around the late 50's to early 70's. This is when wall ovens were most popular, especially in contempoary and modern style homes. They were ususally featured in more upscale kitchens, along with drop-in cooktops. Find out if any of these neighborhoods are having a "clean up day" where they will pick up bulk trash...or just look for homes under renovation. It also may not be a bad idea to hit appliance shops in the area that deal with selling new stuff to them, and you can get an inside connection on the old gear that's pulled out!

My sister lives in a house inherited from her aunt and it has KDI16 from 1969. I'll get pictures as soon as I use up the film. It's still going strong and we want to hold onto it, do repair people still know how to repair it? Now, I was looking at a music video on vh1 and what to I see? Go to the website below, click on "We are One Tonite" and it is about halfway through with a pregnant woman closing the KA. Nep

Great photo's of your collection! All your machines really look great! My mom had a KDI 17 w/stainless steel panels. The machine worked great!
Kraft-General Foods bought Hobart sometime in the mid-80's. Hobart continued to function as an independent business unit, but gave Kraft a competitive advantage by having an institutional kitchen equipment manufacturer in it's portfolio. The research laboratories of Hobart matched with Krafts marketing & research knowledge helped strengthen Krafts position as a global provider of food, and food related services/products. Kraft sold the KitchenAid name to Whirlpool towards the late 80's/early 90's. Whirlpool adopted some KitchenAid technologies, but eventually put all it's machines on similar platforms to reduce manufacturing costs.
One, or two, models of Hobarts commercial undercounter dishwashers still uses virtually the same pump technology as the KDI 17 series (which is why many parts are still available)
Todd, do you know where I might still be able to get a stainless steel uppper & lower panel for my KDS 17A? Also, I need a new black pushbutton for the Energy Saver switch. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
