Hi everyone! Happy Saturday - I'm sure you're all washing away today - my GE is Filter- Flo-ing away in the background as I type. :-)

I was wondering - do any of you have any of these older Hotpoint models? I don't recall seeing may of them on here or many people finding any either. I saw one in person ONCE in an old house in Brooklyn about 6 years ago. Nice harvest gold model and it did work, though it wasn't being used. It was an old house a friend of mine was renting a room in - he did't use the washer in the basement as it was so old he said it intimidated him. I could understand since those machines DO look pretty complicated compared to the dumbed down top loaders we are used to seeing today.

I was just wondering if any of you had any of these old Hotpoints and if you could put up some pics. I think I'd like to try and find one when I get back east. I have a few things on my list. I have 3 GE washers and no dryers. I'd like to find at least one Americana Dryer with the Big Door and maybe a Versatronic to match my older GE.

Ok - hope to see some fun pics...

Matthew

It makes me wonder how much water this machine used on a the two wash, two rinse cycle. Since this is a 16 lb machine, I'm hazarding a guess of about 280 litres?

Hotpoint

My grandmother had a matching Hotpoint set when I was really young. My guess is that they were from the late 60's. And I LOVED them!! As I was very young, I do not ever recall seeing it wash. I do remember the controls, that green agitator, and I can still hear it washing away in the basement. It certainly was not quiet. I remember the day it died in 1984, just like it was yesterday. I was just excited because she was getting a new washer. If only I could have known..... The washer is definitely on my wish list. :)

ST hotpoint

my parents bought a new hotpoint in 1970-spent plenty of time watching this one,
even made some cassette sound recordings of it(would love to have those today!)
Washer was dead-reliable for about 9yrs then the troubles began;first the pump seal
went(real pain for a 10yr old kid to fix as these had a bronze impeller hub secured
to the motor shaft with a steel setscrew-seized real good!) a little later one of
the 3 friction pads of the clutch came off-couldn't get that part new in 1980,so
a parts machine was obtained for the needed parts...Finally,in 1981,the sediment
tube(of aluminum)corroded and broke off-a chunk of the sediment tube jamming the
pump.Parents bought a new KM BD and the hotpoint was stripped of certain parts
and went to the dump where i watched it and a white rollermatic get buried in the
landfill... I think '72 or '73 was the last year for these.

Rim Flow!

This was the first rim flow series produced from 1974. They kept the left open lid till about 1976 than went to the back open lid. The dryers were changed to GE mechanics in the late 60s from my understanding!

We had a 1964 Silhouette model which I never saw work, as I was only two years old when it bit the dust. The only time I saw it was in a slide photo taken in the kitchen of an apartment my family lived in prior to the house in which I grew up. I wish I knew more about it.

Have a good one,
James

Sorry for posting twice. My computer stalled when I pressed the icon to post, so I pressed it again not realizing that it worked the first time.

My set

I have a solid tub set (not matching; dryer is close, but not a match). I have had them in storage for past couple of years, but will post some pics soon, as I plan to start using them in my home. They are in great shape and fun to use.
