Pink GE set in Syracuse NY

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I know you're teasing. I am not sure what I would bring at an auction, but I have some cool radios, tv's, fridges, and the westy set. Whoever bought the lot might just keep me around to advise about maintenace.

I can't believe all the "open" bidding needlessly driving up the price! Amateurs--- DUH!!!!! The "sellers" must be like deer in headlights!

Hell, Greg already put a link to the Snipe web-page, and THATS where the REAL action will be anyway.

I'm thinking these will go for between 6-7K.
A lot cheaper than a new Miele pair, take the 70# PW6321 for instance. AND Miele isn't offering them in pank.

I'd like to put a bid!!!

Of a million dollars just to pissoff the other bidders and the snipers, HAHA!!!!. once the item has been won then you cant cough up the million and, now you have pissed off bidders, nextime they will learn thier lesson

Good for the Sellers!!!!!

These sellers deserve EVERY PENNY they get for having the good sense NOT to have just thrown these beauties out as they renovate their new home. I may just send them a couple of bucks for having posted the comprehensive pictures of these machines. They know we're out there! If nothing else, I've enjoyed looking at them and the low-voltage drama of this sale!

Hooray for capitalism! Demand based pricing, just like the airlines. If there is a will, there is a way.

But, jeez Louise, $3.5K for a General Electric washer and dryer? For a GE? C'mon, it's just a GE!

The Philcos

I seem to remember a rather nice pair of pink Philcos of the about same vintage. That pair went for $8000.00 I believe.

Although the Philcos had a more unusual washing action that the GE, the GE set is brand new!!

This past weekend I saw the same oven and cooktop that is related to these GE appliances, in a home, in yellow. (Remote push-button control cooktop) They also had a green 1-18 in the garage, still connected and functioning. I am hoping to pick that baby up this weekend.

What a gorgeous pair. I love the pink color and the pink accents on it most of all I think!

For those out there who have done full restorations: how much is it to have a professional repaint on a washer and dryer set?

Syracuse, NY GE 1957 Filterflo Washer & Dryer

Hello, all...I am one of the Sellers of these Great (OK, so I had no idea!) machines! While my s.o. had an inkling that they were worth something to someone, I must admit, I thought they were headed for the dump! So, he has said "I told you so", and I am hanging my head in shame... The reason I am writing is that, there is some mystery surrounding these appliances...(incl. the dishwasher, which, btw, don't be too concerned about the front...the big spots are tape...the former owner's son told us that their father "just never got around to hooking the machines up." Personally, I think he must have been a world-class jerk, and if I had had these in my home but unable to use them, I would have gone on strike. Of course, back then, women pretty much did it all as far as housework.
So, was Mr. Cimbal lazy, or just pre-occupied with his car mechanics? (Yes, we found lots of car "stuff", too.) So, there you have it...brand-spankin' new vintage GE washer & dryer and dishwasher (oh, and the kitchen was painted pink also)...He did get as far as setting the dishwasher in, and started to wire it in, as I recall, but that was as far as it got. Man, I'd have killed him, if I had been MRS. Cimbal! Well, best of luck to whoever wins...we have had several emails from someone, who wants them badly, because his grandmother had the same set...ok, which one of you guys is it??? I'll stick to my new front loader, thanks!! But, I would LOVE to see pics of these things when the winner gets them up and running!

Cathy-----

Hopefully you will keep your eyes open for more of these gems. Sometimes they are very used and looking very rough----filty and covered with dust. However they clean up well, can usually be restored, and become treasures for someone!

There are lots of strange stories out there concerning old machines. It is amazing how many machines turn up almost new---because someone very stubborn refused to change their ways. Automatic Washers hardly used because someone thought their old Wringer-Washer did a better job. Or the gift of a Clothes Dryer---never used because someone preferred a clothes-line instead! Sounds crazy, but most of us here on this website are all too familiar with such stories. Mrs.Cimbal may have been the culprit, not Mr. Cimbal!

My Grandmother ...

...got a new 1960 something Lady Kenmore roto-rack dishwasher for Christmas one year. She absolutely refused to use it! The ONLY time it was used was when all her kids and grandkids were in for a Holiday and THEY would hook it up and use it. Otherwise, it was just another handy place to stack stuff in the kitchen! I have that machine and can't wait for John L to get it restored for me!!! Mark

$4849 and less than 2 hours left...

will it see 5? I would love to meet and shake the hand of the owners, whoever they are: if they don't know about this website, they sure as hell ought to! Not many in their "right mind" would shell out that kinda jing for something like this.... unless, of course, your one of us! ;-)

Wow!
I grew up in Syracuse, and our neighbor had this identical pair, only in white! Unfortunately they were trashed only a few years ago. She took meticulous care of them, but the washer started to leak, and the rest is history. My mom told me right after they were put to the curb.

Another new washer/ dryer story

I had an aunt and uncle who built a very nice house and did alot of the work themselfs. They had 5 children and a brand new top of the line Westinghouse washer and dryer in the basement but my uncle (who worked at westinghouse) didn't hook-up the set. For years my aunt had to go to the laundromat or wash by hand. Even after the kids were older and my aunt worked part time and could of paid to have them hooked up the washer and dryer just sat there. It got to be such a family joke it was brought up at every family gathering (she played the part of the long suffering marter and he just dug his heels in and refused even more).Eventually after the kids where grown my uncle put in the hook ups but by then my aunt didn't want that "old set" so she had the old "new" set that hadn't been used hauled away and went to sears and got a brand new kenmore set. I think partly to get back at him because they weren't Westinghouse.

Well, if it couldn't be me,

I'm glad it went to someone named "GEFilterfloman". Congratulations!...and when you get around to it, tell us what that little black dot in the middle of the washer control panel is.
