Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

They had rinse aid back then? Wouldn't have guessed. When I was a child, in the early '60s, hardly anyone we knew had a dishwasher.

Is that black thing in the front left corner of the lower rack a silverware basket?

Nice dishwasher, all of the applianes in that house look new! The DW rack system looks nearly identical to the basket case top loading 1949 GE DW I found a few months ago with the 1948 Servel fridge. BTW - I'm going to part the DW - I have all racks and the motor (condition unknown) if anyone is interested.

Note the metal baffle in the left front corner of the lower rack. With the silverware basket there, plates could not go in that corner and the impeller rotates counter-clockwise. I wonder if the baffle was needed to keep water from being forced out between the door and tank. I think I remember that the one I have would leak a bit if the machine was operated without the silverware basket in place.

The black ring in the center of the rack with the wire circle above it held the silverware cup in GE DWs. The "teeth" or square ridges on the inside of the circle formed the wash evenizer which kept a steady but diffused shower of water going upward in all 360 degrees of the spray pattern.
