Pink Maytag Highlander Available in FL

Our dear friend Terry's house has finally sold and his pink Maytag Highlander washer is available if anyone wants it. The house sale is closing in approximately 3 weeks and the washer will need to be moved before then or it will be disposed of.

It's a two speed, standard capacity with a dark speckled wash basket and a filter-agitator.

If you're interested, let me know ASAP and I will let you know how to get in touch with Terry's nephew to make shipping or pickup arrangements.

Washing away.

As far as I know, the machine is working. As I recall from the last time I saw it, a damper-pad replacement (or lube) will be needed, but other than that it was a good washer. It hasn't been used in a little more than a year since Terry passed so it may need a check-up before being put into regular use. I built this washer from two+ machines back in '03-04 and Terry moved it to his new home in '05 after our convention here in Omaha. I'm sorry, I can't find any full-frontal shots of the machine right now but I'll keep looking through picture files.

I thought this washer was shipped out a long time ago...
We will be in St. Pete in a couple of weeks...
Question is, is it safe to lay the washer on its side?...
We have a Caddy SRX, but it's not tall enough to stand up...
We have access to a truck, if not...

Maytag

My experience with Maytag says they should not be laid on their side but must remain up right.

Maytag Automatics can be moved lying down. It's not an issue at all. Dozens of us on here have moved thousands of Maytag washers this way.

Several tips:

It's preferable to move them on their side as opposed to the front. Don't transport it on its back simply because of stress that you will put on hoses and the console overhang.

Tape the lid down with masking tape for obvious reasons.

I think Maytags are a little easier to load and unload if you transport with the motor side down simply because that side is heavier. On a Highlander the motor is in the right rear corner so if you can load it with the right side down I think it's a little easier. On higher end models 1957-1965 and ALL Newton machines built after 1965 the motor is in the left front corner so these I would load with the left side down.

Actually, I have also learned from experience that an older Maytag helical pitman transmission can benefit from spending some time on its side "resting" from time to time since this helps get some of the stiff gearcase oil to the upper agitator bearing. Whenever my 1967 A806 starts making the slightly distressed sound of a dry bearing I lay it on its side for a week or so and, PRESTO - the sounds goes away for a few more months.

different years and models.

What year is this? I would
love, as I posted earlier,
to find a set like this machine
in Turquoise or Yellow.

I would definitely consider this
one, as it looks very cool in pink.

I'm interested in it, if no one
else takes it. I know another
member is already interested.

I'd hate to see it go to the
boneyard, and I will be needing
a washer and dryer, soon.

Matching dryer...

Louis, I do believe I know where there is a matching dryer to this washer (in pink, natch!) It's located north of Montreal, though and the last time it came up for sale it was a bit pricey... BUT it would make a set...

I really appreciate the heads up on the dryer.

I would definitely pursue it if I were to get
the washer.

Right now another member who is, or will be
in FL, expressed interest first. If for
some reason I am given the opportunity
to acquire the washer, if he doesn't,
I will defintely let you know.

I love the looks of these machines.
I'd love turquoise or yellow, but I'd
def take a pink pair.

Your Kitchen is awesome. I just got a
complete set of turquoise appliances
from an all original ranch. Will be
buying a house in the near future.

I can't wait to get started putting
my place back together. I'd be
more than Ecstatic if I could get
a matched washer and dryer.
