Well, some wayward Kenmores showed up today, and there was a flicker in the force too, as my ultra-cool, ultra BOL Hotpoint (the 'Hotpernt' as it is already referred to) arrived as well.

A few pictures will follow, as I know how visual we all are...

This came in from Baltimore, from Martin/Yogi. One of my dream machines. Just need to get a good console, and spend some time painting on this one. I have always had a thing for this model, and the carcass of one, which I intended to repair, was in my trailer of stolen machines, so I'm really glad to have this one, in my favorite color.

Future pics and video will be coming of course.[this post was last edited: 4/4/2012-11:09]

Here is a beautiful 1974 Lady K dryer - just beautiful.

A funny comment was made by my assistant at work, who usually helps in the off-loading "What happened to the paint, it's all faded-like." I had to educate him a little regarding the fine art of appliance colors.

See anything in the background?

We didn't get a pic of the Hotpernt, as we had already tucked it away in a special room padded from interference with the force. I have a few DDs in there too, :-) I'll reserve this reply spot for it in its honor though. Pics and video to follow on it at some point as well.

They are pretty much "beautimous"

There is a nasty rash on the left side of the washer, which I think some custom touch-up will fix, but the pair otherwise looks to have seen very little use.

The dryer has no button/zipper rash on the door rim or drum, and the washer just does not exhibit much appearance of use other than a very minor amount of surface rust under the top. I know it is not use-free, but light use for sure. I still has its original tub light I believe.

John - manufacture date is 20th week of 1963, so I suspect this may be the original, non-beefed up gearcase?

I will be testing this washer soon, for sure. Its drain hoses have been pushed into the cabinet, and I don't know if that means it was worked on and someone stopped, or if the hose connectors simply broke.

The agitator is the new-style (for 1963) Super Roto-Swirl, and it is glossy black.

It's time to do some garage re-arranging so I can get this in there to join its brethren.

FUN FUN. I don't know how many pink KM sets there are out there, but its kind-of a nice feeling to have something this rare finally.

I hope you all enjoy the pics.

YAY Gordon!   CONGRATS on that pink Lady K set, those are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I'm not mistaken, his is your FIRST forey into the pink realm, yes??

I will have to dig out the triple dispenser and it's lid for you, but I don't think the lid is in really great shape.   Tho, a not so great lid is better then no lid, yes?

Gordon... what a fabulous truckload!!! Now I know that you must have been just crazed with anticipation of their arrival... all beautiful, but that pink set is just over the top!!! Wow!

Hey Jeff, thanks for your help in making this haul happen. I know that Ray would have done it eventually, but your extra 'ooomph' made it easy.

I just realized, the only white appliance in the whole haul was the Hotpoint. Funny.

By the way, I owe special thanks to Walt in New York for the gold Ladies. They are much nicer than I expected, THANKS Walt, these are keepers.

Gordon

Now for Sunny Yellow...

Wait.... WHAT??

Sunny Yellow?   Hmm... there must REALLY be a disturbance in the Force... First a Hotpoint and NOW Sunny Yellow is on your radar???   It's NOT a WP or KM color! (is it?)  I need to send a shaman, healer, medicine man, witch doctor AND an exorcist to remove all these evil spirits and return the Force to normal!!!!

(No need to duck & run here!)

Actually KM had a yellow too. Last year there was a yellow 1963 LK dryer in Sacramento's craigslist. I could have had one of the Lodi folks go get it, but decided not to since the seller wanted some serious cash for it. A yellow pair, yeah, just the yellow dryer, I didn't think it was worth asking for the favor.

How mint they look, Gordon!

Walt finds gold mines. So glad you connected with him. Congrats on another safe Holy Grail arrival.

By the way, five second spray rinses showed up in yesterday's doctrine in the 67 LK. How did that happen? Like you, I thought they were all seven seconds. The only 5 second spray I know of is on the WP Convertible. Your new Lady like mine has the typical 7 secs. Do you know the history here?

And please enjoy the Suds-return. If you don't like re-use, just use fresh clear water and watch the magic of water chaos as the level rises and the currents change. It sends me over every time--and mine are all FAKE and mickey-rigged. You have the real Mc Coy.

Wow they look just mint Gordon, congratulations!!!! Where did you find these???

As for the BOL Hotpoint, what year is it from?

Coppertone Kenmore

That model was the first one I ever bought, coppertone, used for $100. Ran perfectly for over 10 years and then refused to pump water out. After getting a used GE FF, I gave it to my brother in law who discovered it was only a clogged self cleaning filter. He bypassed the filter with a section of hose and used the machine for several more years.

Hey, nice looking garage door LK set. But the doors are down. Is there something under there that we aren't supposed to see? Inquiring minds MUST know!

I guess if you like pink then the '63 set is fantastic! Otherwise if you don't like pink, just believe they are white and all will be fine. Cool stuff!

(I'll have to check the books tonight on the gear case change date in '63)

Thanks a lot Robert. I found these in Pittsburgh. The seller tried to sell them last year at a four-figure price, and though we all enjoyed looking and laughing, nobody forked over the cash. I often said to myself "I shoulda tried to get those". When the seller listed them again, I figured "What do I have to loose?" and I contacted the guy. The seller was a really nice guy, and glad someone such as myself wanted them. I paid a whole lot less then his asking price. There is a wonderful east-coast only hauler who knows appliances and he hauled them and did a nice job. He said as he was leaving "you all are a fun but nutty crowd!" LOL

As to the Hotpoint, you're going to give me a "hmmmph" but its a 1985 model.

Gordon

My Favorite Kenmore!!

The 1963! My neighbor had this washer when I was a kid and all the lights ,bells and whistles fascinated me!! Pink just makes it all the more fantastic!im glad you got a hold these!!

Mickey -

I have a couple 1979/1980 Kenmores with 5-second sprays. It might be part of the Energy Saver campaign that Sears embarked on in fall 1978 with the '79 models, BUT I didn't notice the 5-second deal in the manual, and I haven't seen anything in writing that mentions a difference between models, etc. So, you've got one on me.

I plan to play with the suds return, but I don't have a laundry sink yet, so I may have to use a big plastic container or something.

I'll send you some pics when I do the suds testing.

G

If you can, Gordon

grab a Conventional aka "wringer," a Tag or hey, come to the wild side and find a Visimatic. That way you can wheel it right up to your machine and save the suds in there. Then if the water gets too cool or has bleach and you realize you have nothing to use it with, and don't want to re-use the water, you can use the wringer machine's pump to get rid of it in short order.

The clangs of the valves are really worth it, not to mention to the unforgettable sudsy chaos.

Good luck. Once "...turned, " it's hard to go back.

PS: After the suds drain from the washer (first Clang) the spin begins. Then after a minute or so, the valve switches AGAIN (second Clang, a little softer though) just before the Spray Rinses begin. Then when you return the suds, The Clang is really loud, and it's like Oh my God, here we go. It's all so captivating and exciting like a roller coaster ride.

so I may have to use a big plastic container or something

Gordon, just go buy a 32 or so gallon plastic trash can!   It's portable, it's easy to empty what doesn't get sucked back up into the washer!

Kevin

Just lovely!

Nice haul Gordon!!  I also am especially fond of the 1963 LKs - I hope they are in good shape mechanically!

Shame the dispenser cover is missing from the 74, but I am sure one will turn up for you!!

I am going to be within striking distance of a KM dryer whose console looks very similar to the coppertone one this coming weekend - I am going to propose parting it out to the owner;  if there is a chance the console might work, let me know and I will send you a picture of the dryer!

Hi Kev.

I thought of that once but didn't think the hose would reach the bottom. What's the trick? And that wringer was just sitting there daring me anyway.

Glad to hear you're saving suds. It's so much fun.

Well you can always 20 gallon can, if they still make/sell them... <span style="font-size: large;">OR<span style="font-size: small;">... </span><span style="font-size: medium;">go buy a large version of one of those rectangular, stackable storage containers.   You know, the one with the removable lid.   That would work too and probably a bit better since it's not as tall.</span></span>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></span>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Either that or buy some plastic pipe and extend the hose to the bottom.</span></span>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></span>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Kevin</span></span>

Re suds return!

A local antique shop had a Homart suds return cabinet here, The store is gone but if I see the owner, i will find out if she still has it!
