I have 4 Frigidaire front loaders. Three are Affinities and one is a FriGEMore with the rectangular door. They all have plastic mixiing inlet valves. The problem is that:
A.the threaded stems are too close together making it difficult to connect and/or disconnect the hoses.
B.because it's plastic, the threading strips so easily that you have to be real delicate on the instalation.

I disconnected the red model to stack the dryer on top. As I went to reconnect it,the damned thing stripped the threading and I had to rethread it.What a PITA!

Indeed!

The only problem I have ever had with my Maytag Dependable Care happened when I had to put it in storage for about 8 months in 2002-3. The drain hose was forced, by the movers, under the lid. It caused the hinge balls to pop out when it was finally re-installed in July of 2003.

I lost the hinge balls again. Teeny Nylon balls. I called the nearest Maytag dealer, and learned that replacements are 4.00 (and tax) apiece! Oy! At least, they are still available.

Hmmm.....

I have a Whirlpool Duet that was built toward the end of 2009. My inlets are spaced pretty decently, although they are plastic. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Whirlpool make the Affinity?

"Does Whirlpool make the Affinity?"

If they did, I wouldn't have one!The Duets do not have the perferated baffles and their hinges rust real easy.

Hmm...

My Duet has perforated baffles (called the Water Inject System) and the door hinge is a big solid aluminum hinge, maybe the earlier versions?

PLASTIC INLET VALVES

Inlet valves have been plastic since the mid 1950s, there should be no problems with stripped threads. To install a hose screw it on by hand until finger tight then tighten with flyers an additional 1/2 to 1 full turn. If you can't screw it on by hand get a new hose, if it still leaks after tightening install a new hose washer or replace the hose. We have started using the new nylon reinforced hoses WP is selling I like them much better than the SS reinforced hoses. They have a larger inside diameter for better water flow and your not sending so much money to China for the nickel that is used to make the SS.

Hinge....hmmm

I don't notice any rust on my Duet's hinge at all. It was built Oct 2004 and it's a solid aluminum hinge. Looks the same as the day I bought it.
