PhilR's Mom
Hi Automatic Washer friends:
Our good Frigidaire friend PhilR in Quebec hasn't been here for a long time now because he's been taking care of his Mom in his home 24/7 since her major stroke in July 2019. She was discharged from hospital and rehab care during the first Covid surge to keep her safe from rampant infections in nursing homes at that time and because the doctors basically had given up and wanted to put her in a nursing home permanently as they said that it was unlikely she would ever improve or be able to have her tracheostomy removed. PhilR stubbornly refused to believe them and moved her to his home to keep her safe. He's now been unable to leave his home for over 2 years except for quick trips to the store
With much hard work and rehab by him and professionals at home she can now swallow, sleep sometimes w/o a C-PAP, move her limbs to a limited degree, even write a bit and speak with difficulty, all things her doctors believed would be impossible. She could do none of this before discharge. While great improvements have been made, she's totally restricted to 1 floor of their 4 level home and it's very difficult to get to appointments because garage-outside access is 2 levels below. The stairs can't be adapted to a chair-lift due to their configuration. Phil bought a used adaptive van to transport her in a wheelchair but it requires manually taking the wheelchair up & down the stairs. His father is also living with them and has significant cardiac issues himself that have also required hospital care during the last 2 years.
The Canadian health system has covered most ICU and home care services but will pay "only" $20,000 CDN of the necessary $100,000+ that will be required to adapt the house for an elevator to give full access to the lower level which has a complete bathroom and space for a new bedroom and access to the garage for outside appointments.
The family's social worker proposed starting a Go Fund Me to help fund adapting the house to improve her access to medical care and the ability to just get out of the house in general.
Here's the link. Your help to ANY degree would be greatly appreciated.
Current exchange rate is 0.8 $CDN to 1.0 $US thus $25.00 CDN = $20.00 US, just FYI.
Many thanks for ANYthing you can do
in advance from PhilR & family.
