But have her home by midnight... just kidding.

This is the 27" fold-down door Kenmore electric dryer than I inherited when I bought house in 1997. It has a sensor, and the filter in the front inside the door. Works like a charm and I have no plans to replace it, but was just wondering how old it was.

Thanks!

That's like 1988 or 1989 through 1991 at latest? The auto-drty is not electronic sensor, but measure heat from the exhaust, in other words not electronic sensor-based auto dry (but I could be wrong on that but there's no mention of electronic dry control on the panel like there was on my LK). The control panel style dates back to the beginning of the dirst generation of DD Kenmores with the new panel style, which was Fall, 1986. The 27" dryers didn't come out, I believe until about 1988 or so. My 1986 LK dryer didn't have the in-the-druym lint filter, it was still the 29" cabinet with the lint filter on top of the cabinet. I believe this was a nicely-featured 80 series dryer, I don't think this is a 70 series dryer, but it could be.

sensor

Appnut,
Inside towards the front, under the door edge, near the filter intake are two metal strip things that I always thought were electronic sensors. But they are not?

sensors

If there are metal bars inside by the lint intake then it should be sensor dry. The way to find out is to take a cd and push in the clips that old on the lower panel. Pop the panel off and if you see a green and yellow wire going to the sensor bar then you have a sensor dry. It works on both the sensor and the measure of the exhaust air temp.

Jay, glad to know these sensors function for both electronic dry control and fabric master dry control (exhaust air temp measurement). I figured the latter was near the rear air flow. The only dryer we ever had in our famioly with the exhaust temp measure was the 1964 Norge. All subsequent dryers that were my mom's or mine, since 1978, were all electronic sensor dry.

Here's how to decode the model number:

110.86983110 - after the 110 which means source code Whirlpool, the 8 is for decade of the 80s, 6 means electric (7 for gas), 9 for 1989, 8 for 80 series, 3 for third series spot in large capacity (there could have been a 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, and if standard capacity, 5 or above), 1 for white, and 10 for the first mechanical revision of the original model (the original model was numbered 110.86983100).

So, you have a fairly high level 80-series 1989 model dryer, which was made in 1991.

I have this very same dryer in Gas in the garage. Very good dryer! Very hot dryer! Wonderful for drying towels and such.

please date my dryer

As a preference I usually don't date Dryers; they aren't much for dancing and getting them into a movie is difficult. Afterwards it just "clean my lint trap" and they are through with you.

Giggle,
I believe the others are correct, you have a mid to late 80's machine on your hands.
