OK, this comes very late in the day--in fact, I think it's already tomorrow on the east coast--but I just noticed that only the Whites cycle (partial or full load) has warm rinses; all the rest are cold.
Not sure what year this POD hails from, but our 1960 Kenmore Model 80 with automatic cycle selection buttons played pretty fast and loose with the warm rinses by comparison. Cycles for Whites, Colors, Delicates, and Woolens provided warm rinses. Only the Wash 'n' Wear and Cold Water Wash cycles had cold rinses.
Full disclosure: There was a toggleswitch all but hidden toward the back of the right side of the console that offered savings on hot water. In the up position, all wash and rinse temps were as advertised. In the down position, all rinses became cold and wash temps--with the exception of hot water in the Whites cycles--dropped down one temp level.
The wash water for Colors and Sturdy Wash 'n' Wear dropped from medium to warm. In the Delicate Wash 'n' Wear, Delicates, and Woolens cycles it dropped from warm to cold.
We always left the switch in the up position, although I'd play with it once in awhile just to feel the differences in temps. Often wondered why they didn't put the switch on the front of the console. There was certainly plenty of room for it.
At any rate, Maytag takes the bragging rights for reducing the number of gallons of hot water used per cycle long before the word 'Eco' came into use.
One does learn something new every day--occasionally at the eleventh hour.
