The best and most long lasting work horses for laundromats ever made!!! Speed Queen were KING thru the 70's and most of the 80's with these machines! Too bad they didn't keep making this same mechanism for home units. Once the perforated tub models were introduced, it was all over.

A local laundromat near where I grew up had a row of these machines. I recall the owner having a problem with one of them, where it would agitate and spin at the same time. Strangest thing I ever saw a machine do.

I still recall the short "Sneezing" sound of the coin boxes as they progressed through their cycles. Those machines lasted right up until the late 80's before the owner sold the place and it became a coffee shop.

This ad brings back memories for me... I never saw the front loader version though.

Did the bright green and orange colors have proper names? If so anyone know what they were?

Never mind. Just read the ad again and saw they were called Apple green and Sundown orange. Missed it the first time.

Commerical SQ Top Load Washers

I think that the MTsfrom the 70s lasted much better, and we still have quite a few early to mid 80s CSQ TL washers going strong in small apartment buildings in DC.

The Solid Tub SQ were very old out dated machines by the later 60s, we allways found they would last about 9 or 10 years wheather they were in a home or a laundromat, therewas way too much pot metal in them that was exposed to water.

Anyone have any real-life pictures of the orange or green Speed Queens?   That orange is fantastic!
