Everytime I see one of these old ads for a WCI counterfeit Frigidaire I want to hurl! Absolute blasphemy! A White- Westinghouse disguised as a Frigidaire. Oh, the shame of it all!

Sad . . .

One of the ugliest consoles ever with that outrageously fake looking woodgrain, such a sad transition from the elegance of the elegance of the '60s and technically inferior as well.

I personally like the consoles as they are quite similar to mine! I noticed that the inside of the dryer still looks similar to the GM 1-18, was it? The dryer rack looks very similar to the one I should have for mine! I'm wondering if any of these had round lenses for their drum lights?

I would make a move that, if it is possible, this ad should be removed from the collection of ads and pictures that pop up in the POD. It was one of the lowest points of appliance history and while a part of that history does not need or deserve remembrance here. I was not going to post anything about it, but seeing as how others have posted their distaste, I will post mine.

Frigiscare!

I think the worst thing next to what they did by pulling out of GM was to keep the same styling. It is unbelieveable that they thought people were stupid!

Well.....

Im kind of glad it did get posted...but in the same way im glad terrible news events have been posted...We need proof of terrible things,,distasteful as they may be,remember,if we did not have news reels of the concentration camps, there would be people swearing it didnt happen, now I know that is taking this to the extreme, but im old enough to remember the WCI junk when it was new, some of the younger kids are not..All that to say this, most of us here know just how really bad it was, so maybe if the kids see it, and we tell them about it, they will someday see one of these blasphemous things and NOT buy it!!

OK....someone has to stick up for the pitiful thing: Yes, it's true that everything WCI touched turned to cheap crap. But having had a 2005 Frigidaire top-loader, I have to say it was fun watching that indexing tub. Let's see...there has to be something else good I can say about it. Nope, that's it.

Oh well, I tried!

My 2 cents here

Sure the model may be old but its still a part of or history and in that time frame era do not forget that parts where of very good qualty and did not cost a lot to make and where produce in or area compared to today washer parts witch might be made by subcontractent working for the same company but cost more to produce since they might be made in another contry where the parts may cost lest to make compared to if made in the us or canada they might cost more to produce and the sale price would be very high. And also do not forget that at the time the washer and dryer in the pod might of been very good during that time era. and do not forget that there might be some homes today that still have this particular washer model for the main reason that eather its still works or people might of buy for there family needs or starting out in life that can not afford anything new this type of washer in a refurbish store. that was my 2 cents here.

yeah

I have to admit that my 1991 WCI Frigidaire washer and dryer set that we used until 2006 when we got a FL set, is still in regular use by my step-daughter. The only repairs have been a new belt on the washer and a door knob on the dryer.

Unfortunately Phil NOTHING was the same or interchangeable with the GM built Frigidare laundry appliances. It would be just as likely that parts would fit from a WP or GE washer or dryer LOL.

John,

Not even the knobs or the drying rack? (WCI rack shown below)

I think at least the bright aluminum strip at the base of the console could be the same (these sometimes deteriorate on older 1-18 washers). If it's not the same, it looks quite close!

Even if these WCI 1-18 washers aren't among the favorites here, I still enjoy seeing them in the POD.

But for my birthday (on 1-18!), I'd like if we could have the real (GM!) thing on the POD!

Interesting question about the dryer,  did WCI, keep the GM version of the dryer for a while after the acquisition?  I thought all WCI dryers have that unmistakeable pattern in the back of the drum that my Gas Frigidaire/Elux had?  alr

POD FRIGIDARE WASHER AND DRYER

The back of the dryer drum looks similar as does the consoles, but NONE of the parts are the same, remember I have had dozens if not hundreds of these apart over the years. The only machine that WCI continued to build in any form from GM Frigidare was the already terrible 24" laundry center and that had a downsized Franklin washer mechanism installed in it.

I don't have anything against any "lame duck's", either...

Part of Appliance History & whether good or bad in retrospect is always 'GOOD!'...

Just wonder how long it was, though, that FRIGIDAIRE ever did go back to their "own, original design"... (On the washer lint filter--the dryer door, of course is so "universalized", on the basis that it opens WIDELY, is the right height and that the lint trap is large, durable & conveniently located, that ALL dryers have it; even GE... And in the case of Whirlpool, Kenmore, Kitchen Aid, only retained their drop-down door!)...
