Kenmore/Whirlpool dryers were always about the best you could get. Kenmore seems to have been the fancier of the two, with more bells and whistles. This model is no exception to that. This looks to be from the late 60's-early 70's. There was also a plug for Sears permanent press clothes.

That Kenmore was once, again, one w/ a very unique control panel & one that, except in that ad, I've probably never seen... (Where's the WASHER for?)

Guess I was a day ahead of myself! Anyway, this Hotpoint/GE made machine was right after they quit making the solid tub Hotpoint machines. It operated the same as the rest of the Hotpoint/GE washers. This model looks to be an upper MOL model that pre chooses the water temp and speed combinations for you.

Hotpoint

I can remember as a child and young person, I never understood why there was a Hotpoint brand along with GE. I was always told that it was just the lower priced line of GE, rather as Estate was for Whirlpool. Only on here have I learned that in earlier times the washers were very different.

I had my first GE washer in college when this came out. Thanks for the ad!

Pretty close feature set as my 74 Hotpoint Lady Executive. Very full featured, maybe TOL for the JCP line, even if a little homely.

I always thought

GE was the cheap line and Hotpoint was the more expensive.

Makes me wonder, if GE put a Green Dot in the back of its washers & dryers, did Hotpoint & JC Penney do, too? The multi-segment "GO!" in the ad, (that are at the end of assembly line affecter every machine has been thoroughly-checked) just made me think of that...

Someone who worked for GE told me that Hotpoint was the "cheap" line of GE. Just saying... It did seem odd to me, since in the 50's and 60's Hotpoint had totally porcelain finish cabinets and GE never did.

Marlboro cigarettes (sans the cowboys) were originally marketed towards women.

Hotpoint was somewhat upscale until the sixties came around. By the late 1960's they were identified as GE's el-cheapo division and it got worse in the seventies.

Their dishwashers of the 1950's were really good units. By the mid-1960's they had become cheap drek. It seemed to me that the washers reliability did not change much until the change-over to a GE perf-tub design, then they seemed to improve. When I think of Hotpoint laundry appliances after they switched to the GE design I think of tough and dependable workhorses.

Builder's-grade units were in cheap new apartments all over and the dishwashers were actually worse than the comparable GE builder's-grade noisemakers. I think the stoves and refrigerators proved reliable if somewhat featureless.
