POD 12/24/2016: 1961 Frigidaire Washer

Another beautiful console from the design wizards at Frigidaire. They combined the look of the 1960 console and morphed it into a clamshell.

The models up until the rollermatic models were greasers that tended to have bolts come loose and sling oil and grease under them, much like Kelvinator machines did. I always hated messing with those! Nice to look at, but messy to work on. Thank God they went to the rollermatic transmission!

You Might Want to Edit the Date

Back in the late 70s or so, I contacted the U.S. Testing Laboratory to ask if one of these tests was available for some appliance. I was told that the tests were paid for by the manufacturer and were not available to anyone else. Somehow, that invalidated the whole purpose of mentioning all of that scientific testing data bullshit; not that many people thought to inquire about the testing.

 

The console reminds me of the speedometer display in a friend's Buick where the adjustable angle of the display was actually a mirror pivoting via a knurled wheel over the actual speedometer which was lying down in the dash.

Thanks for the photo with the closed console, Phil. Don't know that I've seen that before. Ditto the gorgeous console of the '61 Electra 225.

Our '59 and '62 Oldsmobiles had the linear or rectangular speedometers, but the '63 Wildcat had gone back to the circular speedometer so the Frigidaire appliance control panel styling had a lag, but seems to have followed the cars' dash styling.
