Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Don’t have the set now, but grew up with it in our household. Parents bought it when I was a year old. I didn’t appreciate it much at the time due to a severe case of Frigidaire envy, but now I realize it was an awesome washer with interior and console lights, as well as timed bleach and fabric softener dispensers.

Ours was white with a suds saver.

Can still hear the wonderful, polyrhythmic, clickety-clacking of the rapid advance timer setting up the cycle when one of the colorful buttons was pressed.

Truly a gem!

I think someone in the AW family has the very similar 1959 Lady Kenmore, but don’t recall anyone with this 1960 Model 80.[this post was last edited: 12/5/2020-18:21]

Photo 1: 1959 Lady Kenmore washer. As you see, the cycle selection buttons are the same style as the 1960 Model 80 pictured in the 12/05/20 POD.

Photo 2: This is a 1960 Lady Kenmore dryer. Didn't find a photo of the matching washer, but it's the one that shows up as a POD every now and again. They changed the look of the cycle selectors by adding a protruding fin to them that you'd move either up or down to select the cycle. For instance, you'd toggle up for Cottons & Linens White Light Soil; down for Cottons & Linens White Heavy Soil.

The 1960 Lady K washer had a liquid detergent dispenser mounted just to the right of the lid, as well as the Super Wash options you mentioned. The 1959 Lady K did not sport those features.

The '59 did have a reservoir--oddly, the fill spout was located inside the console if I recall correctly--for fabric softener. The control for the amount of softener to be dispensed is the left-right sliding control off to the right on the lower part of the console (Photo 1).

Thanks for all the information. I’d like to find a set of these some day but shipping is getting expensive these days and people don’t seem to be willing as much as they used to be. I don’t need any more projects either. Lol!
