I have never understood how mugs like those placed on their side like in the front left of the upper rack can get clean. I'm sure they did, but I just don't understand the physics involved.
I was always worried about the maximum height for things in the rack that moves for fear of breaking something as I pushed down on the lid to latch it.
"Hurricane-in-a-box" spraying action just bounces it off the sidewalls and hits every surface. Parents used to load large wine glasses ( in a KDS-14) with the stems towards the center and everything came out spotless every time.
I have the Electra version of this and have never tried putting mugs or cups in the upper rack sideways. What I do put in there gets clean, even if I load a couple of larger items like pots or mixing bowls in the lower rack. I have the KD5 version, too, graciously saved by Eddie ( toploader55) a few years back.
I concur (although I usually prefer the GE top-loaders equipped with a Power Shower and am still looking for another rare Maytag top-loading portable{the best dishwasher ever made}).
