POD 13/02/2018 - Lady Kenmore Dual-Action vs competitors bib-cleaning comparison

One wonders what the competitors are? Brand B looks like a GE, Brand C a Maytag? Not sure what Brand A is - the only thing I can think of is Whirlpool, but then given WP made the Kenmore too, I'm not sure they'd appreciate Sears advertising against them!

not only that, it was matched in the store against their own designs of the PentaVane and PentaSwirl.....

for many years, until the patent expired, it was a Kenmore Exclusive....I think it came under FSP who built for each, in effect, Whirlpool was a competitor....

Kenmore was always one step above Whirlpool when it came to features....I don't think I ever seen Whirlpool with a detergent dispenser out side of the MagicMix....and only Imperial models seen solenoid activated bleach/softener dispensers...

about the closest Whirlpool ever came was their one and only Digital model...and yet still didn't offer the features of the Kenmore Limited....

Kenmore offered a white tub for years before Whirlpool ever put one in theirs...

some people you couldn't convince that underneath, Kenmore and Whirlpool were the same machine.....

When this appeared on the market I thought it was an answered prayer for all those people who stuffed their machines until the lid wouldn't close. For the first time it was feasible to get a fifty pound load to roll over occasionally.

Kenmore & Whirlpool

For many years, the majority of Whirlpool's factory output was for Sears. In fact, Sears owned controlling interest in Whirlpool until a few years ago, according to a lady I know who owned a Sears Catalog Merchant Store.

One exception of a feature that put Whirlpool above Kenmore was their Knit cycle with a cool-down, whereas Kenmore just had it set on the Delicate cycle on the 8-minute mark.

the brochure I have is for the DD, only model available was a LA9800XT.....this resembled the panel from the belt drive

one dated for 1995....shows a LSE9355D...still a DD, yet probably the only one that offered the Triple dispenser under the lid like the Kenmore...

I need to scan a page of this brochure as it shows a 24" washer LBY7245B and dryer LEY5633B...with an interesting control panel...

also a SudsSaver Whirlpool DD machine....LSS7233D

Electronic WPs

There were two electronic models for 1978 as well.

The LFA9800, but also an LFA7900. I don't know how "decontented" the 7900 was, but it may have had a similar control to Kenmore's non-Lady K 1979 electronic model that was missing the infinite water level and the short and ex-short wash cycles of the Lady K.

Anyone familiar with this model?

Yes!  I was sure there were two models for the LFA year but I couldn't remember the model number to search it.

IIRC the console layout was otherwise the same as the 9800 (pictured) incl variable water level but the touchpads were all the same beige color vs. the 9800 being more colorful, two option choices were missing (maybe 2nd Rinse and Super Wash, or Super Wash and Spin Only if the two left-side pads were eliminated as-is instead of rearranging Spin Only in place of 2nd Rinse), and I think it had LED indicators only for the cycle choices, not cycle progress.  Also no timed bleach/softener dispensers.

LFA9800 had quiet pack motor-mount grommets but the standard 95405 belt (not the skinny belt).  7900 had standard motor-mount grommets.

I want to know how they managed to fit all of that into a load! Seems like an awful lot even for the large capacity model.

I would be curious....

the load consisted of:

3 sheets
4 shirts
6 shorts
2 tablecloths
4 T-shirts
5 handkerchiefs
6 bath towels
6 washcloths
4 pillow cases

and of course the 10 bibs

does anyone with a LadyK large capacity with a DAA care to try this test out....or even with one of the machines they test against....I have a GE and a Maytag...

Once I get a full hamper, about the equivalent of that load, I do an extra large wash in my old Maytag and everything comes out clean. Just wish it would warm up and I can hang outside and not use my dryer. Maybe in March, hopefully?

They never specified the size of the sheets or tablecloths. I'm guessing twin maybe full size sheets? I too am curious to see the load described in the ad, in a video.
