The Hot water consumption (cough, hack, wheeze) is listed as "up to 17 gallons."  That seems low with a hot wash and the overflow rinse or did this machine pull a Norge and do a cold rinse with a hot wash? I would like to know why these did not get good ratings from CU & CR. Were they maybe noise averse?

Did SQ ever have a sudssaver feature?

Thank you, Bill. I completely missed that. I took a quick break from a huge project and obviously did not devote enough time and attention to the ad, although I remember looking at the timer dial because I wondered if the MAN setting in the fill portion was for areas with very low water pressure. Suds savers, especially in solid tub machines, presented so many approaches to the suds return process that the ways of various manufacturers' systems are interesting to me. The question was an afterthought that I should have kept to myself.

Thank you, Martin!

I suspect this literature is for newer models since it mentions recirculation of the water and a switch to select what to do with the wash water. I suspect that this early 50s machine was similar to our early 50s Kenmore with Sudsaver in that the wash water always drains through the suds hose and the rinse water always drains through its hose since there is no switch for selecting save or drain for the wash water.

Why poor ratings

When I was in undergrad these fluid drive SQ coin ops were in the dorms. The tub is very small, turnover and cleaning were poor due to the small tub and the agitator design, the aggressive agitation put a lot of wear on clothes even with just one wash, and clothes emerged linty. Rinsing was very good, though. See the videos on YT. They made unique sounds. They were workhorses that tolerated gross overloading well and without any sign of strain.
