Seems strange, by today's standards, seeing a picture of a machine that was so very heavy in weight and was built with so much metal that was chromed. Those machines were built like TANKS! They did work quite well and there were more Kenmore washers and dryers in homes than any other machines at that time. These days and the recent past were all machines made mostly of plastic, particularly the console and timer area. Have to be very careful moving or taking them apart for service. The plastic is quite easy to break. The direct drive machines were very flimsy in comparison to the old belt drive machines and the new models even more so. I find it amazing that the direct drive machines were so long lasting and fairly durable. They are certainly easier to work on than the belt drive machines too.
