I was surprised they were still making boltdowns at the same time as redknobs.

5 year warranty on the "transmission" eh? IINM, the "transmission" consisted of about $4 worth of belts and a sheave (back-then price). Very user serviceable, I 'overhauled' ours when I was 14. Our earlier WH (double door) did need a trans late in its life.

That (planetary) trans lasted the first 10 years of my life. Our second one was the gearless design, circa 1957. I just can't nail design changes to within one year.

The semi-continuously-variable spin pulley was ahead of its time and a huge cost reduction. Same "earthquake" solenoid.
