Looking at today's POD, I'm wondering how successful Speed Queen would have become if that machine washed like the new models? Not too well I would imagine.

I doubt that the Queen would be happy.

LOL

Actually those solid tub SQs weren’t that great at cleaning. My college dorms had them. During wash, water splashed over the top of the tub a lot, and before long, the water level was too low for the load to roll over. The small tub did not help with rollover either. And they were hard on clothes. Agitation, extremely fast and vigorous at 210 degrees, started with a loud solenoid bang when the tub was only about half full of water. Corduroy pants came out beaten up. And clothes emerged pretty linty too.

But they were like no other washer, and so much fun to watch and listen to.

Rinsing was fantastic. They did a superb job of keeping whites white. With the overflow rinse the rinse water was always clear.

And they were very fast. The tub emptied in probably less than a minute, almost as fast as a Frigidaire Unimatic.

They withstood tremendous abuse, running grossly overloaded and nonstop day and night.

The SQ solid tub machines at he apartment I use to live in during the early 70's worked GREAT!!The drum filled up most of the way and water did not splash out.On rinse mode the SQ went thru the "overflow" rinse which was MORE effective than other washers.I DON'T care if it uses more water-it gets the job done RIGHT.So miss those machines!!!

My parents bought a home in 62’ that was built in 56’ and it came with a matched set SQ washer and dryer like the POD washer. The house they sold had a 58 GE FF and a 55’ Norge Timeline dryer that went with the house. Mom had been happy with both of these machines.

My Mom hated those SQ’s, especially the dryer, it got so hot that its a wonder the clothes didn’t burst into flames when the door was opened. And the washer left lint all over everything. Within 3 weeks they were out the door and replaced with a new Whirlpool MOL washer and dryer.
