This was in the 1970's and was during the 1-18 realm. In the summer of 1976 I actually ordered 5 of these washers and two of the dryers for our family dry cleaning/laundry business. We were moving into a new plant and the plan was to use 4 of these washers and one dryer to do shirt and laundry pants along with regular wash/dry/fold laundry for customers. The other set I took to my parents house. I foolishly thought at age 20, these machines would be much heavier duty than the home units. That proved to be wrong and it proved to be much more difficult to repeat or do anything different than the one cycle provided since the timer was set up to have that one cycle and a fixed time. Anyway, I learned from that experience that I should have simply bought home units with the features I knew I would use and did do that a year or two later. This last commercial washer and dryer Frigidaire made while owned by GM was available in the 1-18 style or the earlier solid tub design, which obviously had a much smaller capacity. The solid tub machines were what the two laundromats in Tulsa with Frigidaire machines had. The solid tub machines had a somewhat different backsplash than these machines, but the coin mechanism and push buttons for speed/temperature was the same. Another difference was that the solid tub machines had the small square glass window insert and the 1-18 machines did not. The new machines did not hold up well to the abuse that laundromats have to endure and were gone within 2 or three years. [this post was last edited: 7/1/2017-08:40]
