I owned a WCI frontloading pair, branded as Frigidaire for about a 1-1/2 years, circa 1987. The only model Frigidaire offered was the rear-control model with dispensers on top. It still had solenoids; made quite a 'bang' every time it went into a spin.
I don't think it reverse-tumbled, either, but I can't be sure. Frigidaire only sold them for one or two seasons. I had a KitchenAid TL'er for a year or two after that, then a Gibson stacking FL'er---the last of the WCI's with a dark speckled tub and tub light. It didn't use solenoids for the spin, but I don't recall it reverse-tumbling, either. It was during this period that I found a great old 1-18 and the '59 LK pair, which I SO wish I had back. Kick, kick.
In '96 came the first edition Frigidaire/Electrolux FL pair.
