Time for a poll. If you HAD to purchase a NEW top loading high efficiency washer, which would you choose and why?

Must be NEW. Must be currently available on the market.

GO!

Malcolm

Maytag Bravos XL

Would probably be my choice. Fisher and Paykel drive system. Several cycle choices.

I kinda like that new LG toploader with the front controls. I looked at the Kenmore Elite version and I must say I was impressed. I also like the new GE toploader with the upswept panel and glass lid. I know one here had that and returned it for a squeek and got a chinese made front loader that he is now having issues with.

F&P:

I would probably go for something in F&P's lineup... I don't know about the AquaSmart, so I'd probably choose one of the agitator choices they have, with the fabric sensing capability and "traditional wash" capability (for TRUE hot washes).

Failing that, maybe an AquaSmart would suffice, but there seem to be be too many mixed reviews for them to seem like an option.

If the Whirlpool Calypso (Bouncing Wash-Plate) machines still were in production and sold in Australia, I would MOST CERTAINLY purchase one of them. Very efficient wash action and very low water usage :-)

I would buy the LG or Kenmore badged LG if forced to. Either with a rear controlled panel.

I'd probably go for the TOL Maytag or Whirlpool washer - quite simply because it allows you to activate the heater on every wash cycle. These seem to be louder than the LGsung models, though and the fill cycle seem pathetically slow compared to the very similar F&P models.

Runner-up would be F&P because of videos I have seen on DeanJB74's YouTube channel: a large load of towels really got agitated by that wash plate - even when using the HE setting.

I do like the WaveForce action on the LG models and the TurboWash but it seems that - maybe just newer versions - either don't waveforce at all because the water level is too high/low or it's just a little dribble or it lasts just five seconds.

I'm going to go with the Maytag Bravos too. Malcolm, you appear to have a very logical approach to your home environment choices.

If I were left to my own devices (probably should be thankful I'm not), the new GE HE top load would be my first choice.

GE Hydrowave

I have a 2012 ge hydrowave, mums got a 2011 they both wash well, are whisper quiet on wash and rinse and the hot water wash is a lot hotter then some other brands will allow.

Pro's
No lid lock
Water gets up to 135f ish when hot water is used
Good cleaning
No issues with balance
Good price
Quiet
Cons
Will it last? Have heard lots of stories about hydrowaves having issues
Will not do a full fill unless you trick it.
Even on gentle wash, has a quick burst high speed short stroke action

Other brands I would buy
Whirlpool or Kenmore with F&P system.

No way would I buy a new machine at this point except the SQ.For me the BEST washers lurk at the swap shops--NOT at the new machine dealers. Most of the new machines are simply trash truck and crusher-shredder food.

I own a 4-year-old Maytag Bravos with heater, quite happy with it. Would buy it again. My daughter just bought the current Bravos with heater, she likes it. The best feature is the heater is selectable for all cycles. Bonus: it gets everything really clean.

Speed Queen!!!!

In my world, HE washers are against the law. They are a huge waste of time, so take my word- BUY A SPEED QUEEN!!!!!!
