I miss the presence of washing instructions printed on the underside of the lid. Some manufacturers provided excellent detail in how to use the machine.

So....

Which manufacturer had the best washing machine instruction/cycle details on the lid?

Kenmore

There was an upper model Kenmore that included wash/spin speeds and timing for each cycle. Like the time of the final spin. That's the most detailed I can remember.

Maybe a windowed alphabet washer, I cannot recall exactly...

1971 top load lady Kenmore washer

Photo number six, hi Ken good eye, this is my 1971 Lady Kenmore that I rebuilt and modified in 1978, I wanted to saber wanted a three speed motor and I wanted the super capacity tub which the 71 Kenmore did not have so I combined several different machines, when I went to the super capacity tub, I had to have the timer from the 74 Kenmore, which was super capacity but did not have a three speed motor anymore so I had to make a machine to suit my desires.

This machine became my daily driver for almost 30 years but the center post finally rusted out and I completely rebuilt it about two years ago putting a stainless steel center post sleeve in And I put it back into use so it is a combination of a few different machines. I also modified the spin speed to get it up around 700 RPMs to improve overall performance, this time. I also installed it with a 30 gallon sink so that I could save all of the suds water up to 27 gallons.

I believe consideration has to be given to the Frigidaire washers of the mid-50s forward which showed the loading pattern imagining the tub being divided into 4 sections with instructions not to wrap items like sheets around the agitator and how to unload the machine by lifting items away from the side of the tub and then up. These instructions cut down on tangling complaints and even persuaded the testers at CU and CR that the machine was an acceptable design, although they could have found the same information if they had read the instruction book.
