Yep!
I finally got them. Last Saturday to be exact.
They're fantastic and I'm having a lot of fun with them.
Well the washer at least.
The poor things have really been tossed around a lot but I don't think they were ever really used all that much in their lifetime.
The store where I went to look at them back in October has closed.
OH NOOOO!!!!!!!!
Thankfully I had the email address for the person I spoke with back then and at the store.
She gave me the # to the warehouse where they were.
Called the Guy and arranged to see him on Sat.
Went there and he wasn't there but got to go see the machines while waiting for him to return.
HORRORS……
They had been stacked on a dolly and it was not pretty.
They were in a warehouse (a huge place) from a Guy who has stuff from a lot of movie sets and theatrical productions. I'm sure you Guys get the idea.....
The dryer on bottom on it's right side and the washer stacked on TOP of it also on it's right side. In sub zero temperatures I might also add.
There was ice on the sides of the machines and I was worried about the spin tub-yep-tilting. (Thankfully it wasn't a problem in the end).
I mentioned to the lady but it wasn't really her issue.
The seller arrived about 5 min. later and although no discount-even with the stacking issue, he ordered one of his workers to immediately take it off the dollies and store it appropriately as "this is the customer who is purchasing the washer and dryer", I was lucky cause I was only going to pay for them and have them picked up at a later date. Well, he offered delivery for only 20 bucks-that day!
I had done the deal, left at 2:25, headed home, went Downtown for some errands, and got home in time to just start dinner and the delivery came.
By 6:25 the machines were sitting in my Apt.
They were way too cold to think of even using that night so I did some cleaning and maintenance on them.
The washer belt was broken as we already knew, so I switched that with the 1980 A50 belt.
There are noticeable differences between the 2 machine's undersides. Not so much mechanical as less protectors and barriers in the newer machine. Most likely just cost cutting more than anything. You can clearly see this in the pics I took.
When I tried to remove the back of the dryer I learned a valuable lesson and fast!
The dryer drum is supported by the removable back plate. I got all but the top screw off and as I undid that one, swoop-the drum fell downwards. Easily recovered problem though and then laid it on it's front to deal with it.
Very dirty in there, and.....a broken belt. The drum belts are fine, but the exhaust fan belt was split-(again with the poly belts)!
So that will need to be replaced. But it is a really beautiful little dryer and matches the washer so perfectly. "Halo-of-Heat" style machine as well.
The washer cleaned up very well and after several hours I decided to plug it in and give it a try. Washer motor ran fine, but spin wouldn't happen. I knew it could spin and pump cause it worked at the store. Looked and felt underneath and the spin shaft was like a piece of ice!
Still too cold so I left it overnight and figured I'd try it in the morning.
We'll happily, the next morning, it worked with no problems and ramped up immediately to full speed. The pump works just fine too.
By now I have done several loads in it and what a FUN little toy!!!
This machine may be tiny, but it's definitely ALL Maytag:
Powerful, quiet and built to last. This little baby, gets the job DONE!
When it hits the high spin speed, the POWER is unlike any other twin tub I have ever used. It's fairly quiet too, but it really is powerful.
And it washes quite well I might add.
This has become quite long winded now so I'll finish, but I will post pictures in my profile later and yes, I'll make a video for you guys-hopefully later this week.
:)

Hi Brad.....

I'm trying to figure that out.
Asked the Webmaster for some guidance and am awaiting his gracious reply.
Haven't posted the new pics yet though so they aren't there, but soon.
BTW, I have a question for you about the Simplicity, may I email you about it?

Very cool TwinTubber... congrats!

How appropriate is it that someone with the handle TwinTubber find and purchase twin Twin Tubs! Guess you'll have to change your name to QuadTubber! :-)

Great find, twintubber!

Bravissimo!

One sort of lime green or something and the other clothed in white. They both look very pretty and, well, are much like sorts of 'toyz'. Read somewhere that these tiny Maytags (probably the smallest portable twinnies ever made) are surprisingly heavy for their size; they certainly look sturdy. The small dryer unit is equally impressive.

Hey Barco....

QuadTubber, I LOVE it!!!!!
But, what happens when I eventually find that GSW/Easy I need to complete the collection? What would my "nick" be then?
Gosh I sure hope my bigger apt. comes available soon as I may have to sell the CATS to make room for the vintage appliances :-0
I joke, I'd never part with the 'kids'!

Hi unclejohn!

Always a pleasure to see your posts.
The Maytag pair are the typical Avocado Green not a lime green. Or if memory serves me correctly, Maytag called it "Spanish Avocado".
Heavy is an understatement. Even the dryer is freakin' heavy.
And I'm no expert, but I do believe the rumors are true that this is amongst the smallest TT's ever produced.
The dryer needs a belt, but it definitely is all Maytag.
Of all the TT's I've ever seen, this is the only one where the units both actually MATCH each other. And unlike the washer, it looks just like a full sized Maytag dryer shrunken down.
Will be fun to use once I get that belt fixed.
The washer sure is a LOT of fun to use!

Nickname

Well TwinTubber, you just multiply the number of twin tub washers you have by two and add that prefix to your name. So if you have four, you'd be OctaTubber, five could be DecaTubber, or if you make it all the way up to eight, you could be HexaTubber! LOL

HexaTubber?

Isn't there a law against that in Canada?
Ha Ha
If I went that far I might need to seek therapy for it!
Sigh.........
How's the 'new' Kitchen Aid working out for ya?

The Kitchenaid is great! Just downloaded a copy of the owner's manual and service manual, so I'll have some reading to do this weekend. Going to give a Soak and Scrub a try as well to see how that works.
