Yep!
I finally got them. Last Saturday to be exact.
They're fantastic and I'm having a lot of fun with them.
Well the washer at least.
The poor things have really been tossed around a lot but I don't think they were ever really used all that much in their lifetime.
The store where I went to look at them back in October has closed.
OH NOOOO!!!!!!!!
Thankfully I had the email address for the person I spoke with back then and at the store.
She gave me the # to the warehouse where they were.
Called the Guy and arranged to see him on Sat.
Went there and he wasn't there but got to go see the machines while waiting for him to return.
HORRORS……
They had been stacked on a dolly and it was not pretty.
They were in a warehouse (a huge place) from a Guy who has stuff from a lot of movie sets and theatrical productions. I'm sure you Guys get the idea.....
The dryer on bottom on it's right side and the washer stacked on TOP of it also on it's right side. In sub zero temperatures I might also add.
There was ice on the sides of the machines and I was worried about the spin tub-yep-tilting. (Thankfully it wasn't a problem in the end).
I mentioned to the lady but it wasn't really her issue.
The seller arrived about 5 min. later and although no discount-even with the stacking issue, he ordered one of his workers to immediately take it off the dollies and store it appropriately as "this is the customer who is purchasing the washer and dryer", I was lucky cause I was only going to pay for them and have them picked up at a later date. Well, he offered delivery for only 20 bucks-that day!
I had done the deal, left at 2:25, headed home, went Downtown for some errands, and got home in time to just start dinner and the delivery came.
By 6:25 the machines were sitting in my Apt.
They were way too cold to think of even using that night so I did some cleaning and maintenance on them.
The washer belt was broken as we already knew, so I switched that with the 1980 A50 belt.
There are noticeable differences between the 2 machine's undersides. Not so much mechanical as less protectors and barriers in the newer machine. Most likely just cost cutting more than anything. You can clearly see this in the pics I took.
When I tried to remove the back of the dryer I learned a valuable lesson and fast!
The dryer drum is supported by the removable back plate. I got all but the top screw off and as I undid that one, swoop-the drum fell downwards. Easily recovered problem though and then laid it on it's front to deal with it.
Very dirty in there, and.....a broken belt. The drum belts are fine, but the exhaust fan belt was split-(again with the poly belts)!
So that will need to be replaced. But it is a really beautiful little dryer and matches the washer so perfectly. "Halo-of-Heat" style machine as well.
The washer cleaned up very well and after several hours I decided to plug it in and give it a try. Washer motor ran fine, but spin wouldn't happen. I knew it could spin and pump cause it worked at the store. Looked and felt underneath and the spin shaft was like a piece of ice!
Still too cold so I left it overnight and figured I'd try it in the morning.
We'll happily, the next morning, it worked with no problems and ramped up immediately to full speed. The pump works just fine too.
By now I have done several loads in it and what a FUN little toy!!!
This machine may be tiny, but it's definitely ALL Maytag:
Powerful, quiet and built to last. This little baby, gets the job DONE!
When it hits the high spin speed, the POWER is unlike any other twin tub I have ever used. It's fairly quiet too, but it really is powerful.
And it washes quite well I might add.
This has become quite long winded now so I'll finish, but I will post pictures in my profile later and yes, I'll make a video for you guys-hopefully later this week.
