Portable Dishwasher advice/questions/debate

Hey fellas,

So, in order to complete my goal of having completely vintage home appliances, I need to find a portable dishwasher. By default, I've been looking for a G.E. Mobile Maid, but I realize other manufacturers made them too. What would you recommend?

So here are my requirements:

1) still able to get parts relatively easily (I realize this is a tall order for a 50 year old machine, but I'll leave the rarer ones to you guys).
2) has to be from 1965 or older (I'll take later if the body style started production pre-1966 and has the right look).
3) a good performer (nobody wants a lemon)

Also, when did the first front opening dishwasher come out (as opposed to top loaders)? What was it? When did front loaders become standard? Just curious.

I do have some parts for a early Mobile Maid, but it's been a hell of a time finding someone that can rewire the motor on my ''59 MM. I think I might have a find here on the Cape. Mr. Gregoire seems to be interested in looking at it.  He's an Older gent that seems interested in checking out my collection.  It would be great to find a "Old Gent" like I'm approaching on, here that would appreciate old machines.

Best Classic TL Portable DW

Hi Will I would look for a KA TL portable with the 4 Way Hydro Sweep wash arm. You can still find most of the pump and other mechanical parts for these, although there a lot of unique TL only parts. The other really good ones are the WP TL portables that have a wash arm rather than an impeller.

 

The one good thing about looking for a classic portable DW is that most that are still turning up are usually very lightly used machines. The ones that were used heavily and developed problems were usually discarded as they [ unlike a built-in ] very easy to push out to the curb. LOL

Thanks John! I'll keep an eye open, as long as it's mid-60s or earlier and cleans well, then it will work. Kitchen Aide is one of my all time favorites though!
