Powder Laundry Detergent

I had been using Persil PowerPearls but since those are unavailable I'll have to switch to something else. I probably will go back to Tide powder since thats about the only kind of powder one can get around here. Just thought I would see what other powders people like. I have a Maxima XL front loader and tend to use the high temperature cycles if it makes a difference.

Cleans circles around Tide or any other lame and high-priced "supermarket" brand detergents.

Light Lemon scent.
Almost no suds.
1/2 cup does an Xtra-Large load of VERY dirty clothes in a Top-Loader.
I use a couple of Tablespoons in the Bendix front-loader.

Thanks for the lead on Amazon...I'm not much of an online shopper I hadn't thought to look there. I had checked Walmart online and it was listed as out there. Seemed to be a lot more expensive online though, $26 for the 50 load jug. At that price I spent a few more dollars and bought a box of the German Persil. Just got it in the mail so it's laundry time now!

I bought the same box of Mega Perls plus a "special edition" box of Persil on Amazon after I brought a used Miele washer & dryer home in April.  I've been using the mega perls in it and I LOVE the scent!

I tried the pearls, but LOVE the scent of the liquid, especially on bed linens....

and of all things, the first and only detergent to cause me to break out in a rash....

Made by our very own Jon Charles (Jetcone). It does work quite well and there is 0 suds. I also have some Persils powder with the pearls. I also have some Cheer powder that i like to use on sheets and colored clothes but i think when my current supply of cheer runs out i think i may let it go.

The Persil is awesome so far. Scent is different than the American stuff, but I like it. I may have to bring some stained linens home from the hotel and wash them with the Persil to really put it to the test...my laundry is usually never very heavily soiled

Stupid question...is there suppose to be a little plastic scoop or something in it to dose and dispense it. Unless it settled all the way to the bottom I can't find one in my box.

All German powdered detergents didn`t come with a meassuring cup for at least 20 years or so.
There is a telephone number and an internet address above the dosing chart on your box where you can order a meassuring cup if you don`t have one.

In the beginning we`ve been told by the detergent industry it was a messure to avoid unnecessary plastic waste as you could use a meassuring cup again and again.
I suppose the real reason behind it is to maximize profit combined with green washing a product which is otherwise rather harmful for the environment.

I don`t think they`d ship to the USA, well you could still try to order one and maybe use a Pyrex cup or tablespoon or something similar in the meantime.

I use a small scoop left over from an oxyclean tub.  It tells how much it holds and I adjust accordingly.

Are any of those Persils OB free? And how can you tell?

@gyrafoam, hows that Bendix treating you? Does it really bend? Also, I've seen that HTD stuff before, but I'm wondering if for residential, you run a big risk of all the STPP turning into TSP. Just because it'd be sitting around. I've heard that happens to people who buy the chemistry store tubs of STPP.
Shipping is $23 for me which makes it a $75 purchase. Equivalent of Tide powder would cost $68 ($11/4lb), so not a huge difference. I might try it.

Only Persil That is Bluing/OBA Free

Are the versions from Germany. Specifically "Colors" (powder, mega perls, and gel), then the various "Perwoll" delicate detergents. The one for blacks/darks (began as FEWA, went through a few changes and is now "Intense" or some such), also does not contain OBAs.

Everything else from Henkel/Persil is loaded with OBAs IIRC.

All of the Dial/Henkel Persil offerings have OBAs.

For darks, I use Woolite HE Liquid for darks. It really does help preserve deep black colors. And It doesn't suds too much, at least not at 105F in my Neptune 7500.

For the rest I've been using Tide powder.

For really stubborn stains I may boost with about an ounce or less STPP, even for the Woolite. It does not seem to fade colors either.
