I bought one and was going to install it in my WH last year but I found my WH was already rusted out so I bought a new heater. I figured the new anode should be good for at least a year in our softened water. I'm on vacation after these next two nights so I may unscrew it to see what it looks like after one year of use (installed last November) and if it looks bad, I'll put the powered anode in. I'm tired of water heaters only lasting 10 years max (last one was only 6 years and it was a 6 year heater. New one is a 9 year heater). I love my soft water but it has its disadvantages....
