Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Yep, westy, one and the same.

Am I now to get my choices on who to respect cleared with you before I express them? Is everyone here?

"We need to fix that?" Austin, what is it "we (us)" exactly that you intend to "fix"? And, how??

The "club"? I don't do exclusive private clubs. I'm posting on a message board. I own one of each appliance, don't allow my appliances to determine my identity (which I read some people actually do, in a very interesting "Dirt Devil/Regina" post on vacuumland.com)....

I assure you, I'm not attending any "meets"....

Austin, can you please explain a bit more about your views on "banning", and how it is that you feel so comfortable in speaking for other board members and even Robert?

I'd just like to know who exactly wields how much influence, for my own and other members' edification (especially since you and two other posters NEVER post on this side, except when one of these political controversies pops up...)

"...should you get even more out of control"

I didn't know you, retro and runematic were appointed specifically to control anyone's opinions in the first place. Is this a new change in board policy? If there is a three-month probationary period, I believe that should be expressed up front when one joins.

Sorry, but this is no longer about Gerald Ford.

Since this has become a public crucifixion, I'd like to know what other members think about the questions I've raised here.
Maybe I need to base my decisions and actions on the dictates of others, and there needs to be a referendum.

This is all news to me, folks.

open mouth insert foot....

is what I am doing by posting this...

I didn't know there was a board for this site, and if a formal club has been set up thats news to me too. As soon as there is, I'll be gone. I resigned my position on the VCCC board and terminated my membership in that club last month, I will not be a part of any club.

I have no opinion about who is right or wrong either, I will say that people should be allowed to express tehir opinions freely as long as its done respectfully and doesen't attack someone else.

Now maybe we should have some cake?

More blanks...

"extremely partisan Republican"? "Attacking people on these boards..."? Sniff, sniff, sob

If I were a extremely partisan Republican, I would wear it as a badge of courage, just as you do with your political beliefs. However, I am neither extreme nor a partisan Republican. I actually have an open mind and vote the candidates and issues. I have been known to (are you shuddering?) vote for Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and Libertarians. So, are we to imply/infer that generalizations are the weapons of mass destruction for the uninformed?

See what happens when you assume?

That has nothing to do with me. I'm talking about something far different...there are divisions, and we all know that.

If I don't believe in something, I don't believe in something...

I didn't realize this was a patriotic, right-wing dominated site that tolerates gay people and hosts them for entertainment value.

I didn't realize homosexual rape could be celebrated, this is true.

I'm sorry, but I can't be associated with anything like that.

Also.....

There's a huge difference between having spirited debate and passionate opinions (which many here do), and having to walk on eggshells around conservatives and "traditional" values (which a tiny few, including, incredibly, teenagers) force the majority to pay homage to...

Sorry, but this seems to be a recurring issue, and posters are frightened to speak up about it (I am not).

Hoover, just to clarify, when I say "board" in conversation, it can mean a site like this one...

It's the "club" concept I take issue with. I can deal with "family", "gang", or "house of Electrolux" lol, but clubs I have no interest in.

It implies a level of exclusivity that I can't relate to and reject completely....like we are here for folksy entertainment.

Ok, Oxy, tell me where I am trying to "control" people's opinion? This was a thread about Pres. Ford's passing. YOU interjected your views. Great. I interjected mine. Retromom posted her views and she gets slammed for her opinion. You are the one who can't stand when someone has a different political philosophy than you. All I see in your posts is hate hate hate. This must be a horrible way to live and a big burden on you. You need professional help or this hate will consume you (kinda like Darth Vader). Also, I didn't know I needed permission to "post on this side of the board." Hell, I didn't even know there were "sides" to the board. I just thought there were 3 sections for different discussions. I do not post on every single thread, but that doesn't mean I don't read 'em or appreciate the content.

"I didn't realize this was a patriotic, right-wing dominated site that tolerates gay people and hosts them for entertainment value"

wow, I don't know if you noticed or not, but besides Retro, Austin, Me, and 2 or 3 others are Republicans and/or conservatives. I believe pretty much everyone else here lean kinda left, dontchathink?

See, that's what I mean.

I express my opinion about issues.

You people then judge ME, and that's the key difference.

I have absolutely none of these problems with the other posters...jasonnl is a perfect example of someone who has strongly held opinions that are conservative, Christian, etc. and is totally uninterested in argument...just thinks people should be fair and decent to one another.

And you have some nerve making value judgements about "hate" and my needing "professional help"....how dare you? I am proud to be disturbed, lol.

What arrogance the right wing has, in denouncing everyday people as "unhinged". This is why, frankly, when the overseas posters read the conservative rants posted here, I cringe with embarrassment as an American...

Oooh it's warm in here...that cake must be about ready by now!

Well I'm gonna put my 2 cents in (that would be about 1.4 US cents LOL.

Of course Mr Ford deserves a state funeral. As others have said what he did was courageous and the right thing to do for the era. Nixon was punished if only by the private and sometime public shame he was left to endure for the rest of his life. If some people think he "got off scott free" and it only emboldened others sense of immunity I believe they're wrong.

I have resisted the urge... BUT.... :-)

Don'tcha think that this is an example that we should ALL follow?---"jasonnl is a perfect example of someone who has strongly held opinions that are conservative, Christian, etc. and is totally uninterested in argument...just thinks people should be fair and decent to one another".

Perhaps I may appear to be passive BUT I thought that this group, site, club or what ever you wish to call it was an appliance/washing machine enthusiasts site hence called Automatic Washer .org! I know that everyone has opinions and I respect that and in many cases respect/agree with those opinions BUT is this realy the place for it? I ask this as I have made many good friends, from this site, and I think that this is due to the fact that I try to conduct myself in the same manner that Jason does. I am not going to try to cure the world BUT I will try to make my own small place in it just a little nicer. I have my opinions and that is just what they are....OPINIONS. They are not for me to preach as gospel nor do I expect anyone to care. They are MINE!

Oxy, I know that you are an opinionated person. You don't make any pretenses to the contrary and I respect that. I have agreed and disagreed with your thoughts but I respect them as such. I don't totally agree with this statement "Oxydolfan, do you ever post anything respectful about anyone?" I have seen you show respect to me and I appreciate that BUT I will say that I did find your lack of respect for human life to be a bit saddening. I have my own opinion of Pres Ford but I was raised to have respect for human life. I can't see how or where this post "Special news reports announce that former president Gerald Ford, has just died. He was 93" called for or asked anyones opinion about the man! Laundress was simply announcing news.

I'm not here to argue but more to ask you all to think about what you say BEFORE you say it. We are a very diverse group of people from all walks of life who have ONE thing in common...interest in appliances. Remember that it's hard to take back something that you have said and nearly impossible to take back what you have written!! Perhaps there is another forum for political debates. Many of you have so many observations and interesting things to say. I'm not trying to stop nor censor this discussion but please give some thought about picking battles wisely. What will the cost be?

Respectfully,
Rich

All of this over ex-President Ford....REALLY? I mean we are talking about President FORD right? How funny...I had almost forgotten him! I mean if it had been a REALLY important President like President Harrison (You remember in office less than a month then died) then I could see all of the fuss! (ducks and runs) (and hides REALLY good)

--Tom

I could use a piece of that cake if it is ready!

Perc, I respect and hear where you are coming from, and I DO respect life-particularly the lives of one-third of the East Timorese population, and particularly the lives of 3000 soldiers and their families....and I hold these people, who espouse proud belief in a death cult, directly responsible. There's no way to "politically correct" that sort of fact, massage it, and make it more palatable. Where's respect (not directed at you, perc) for MY diversity of opinion?

Remember, my initial post simply pointed out my disgust with the overblown, tasteless spectatles a la Reagan that state funerals for dignitaries have become....

When I read the post that favored forcible homosexual rape and actually celebrated its use as PUNISHMENT, I was horrified and, at first, tried to make allowances (the skyrocketing violent crime rate in Houston is a travesty, for example) for current events.....but then noted with unease that not ONE poster besides myself came out in opposition of any sort, and I began to wonder, who exactly is the puppetmaster here?

I need to know if this sort of morality is acceptable here because I need to know if I can personally lend my name and get further involved with such a community and still live with myself. I need to know if I'm allowed an equal voice. I need to know if respect for life means EVERYONE'S life, or if that just an empty platitude, so we can save the fetus and drop the baby on its' head once its born.

I need to know if most posters consider forcible gang rape in government custody acceptable, and an acceptable punishment for the theft of a plaything.

I need to know if a desire to become more domestically grounded and learn more about home and hearth, is a walk through a dangerous walk for a strong, committed leftist these days.

I need to know if I'm considered "one of the bad ones" by the silent majority here. I need to know if the appeasers want me gone. It's that simple.

Thanks so much perc-o-prince for speaking your mind. You really are a prince after my own heart!:)

Thanks everyone!

"Are you seriously comparing the impeachment of President Clinton to that of Bush?"

Yes, I am- in one important respect. The business of running this country came to a screeching halt over the Lewinsky liplock and Bill's fibbing. The course of the 2000 campaign was seriously altered; Gore couldn't campaign as someone who would continue on Clinton's course. We ended up with Bush, and with a deeply, deeply divided electorate.

With much more serious issues at work today, do you have any IDEA how much more divisive an impeachment of Bush would be? This country is already about as polarized as it can be without breaking in half along the Mississippi. The only- and I mean ONLY- thing to do about impeaching Bush is to forget about it. Let's muddle through the next two years and take care not to elect anyone like that again, but whipping up another partisan frenzy on top of what's already going on is insane. With passions running so high, there's no telling what direction our country might turn towards during a serious impeachment. When Clinton was impeached, the idea was to spank the guy for fibbing, and look what the hell happened.

Impeachment is serious damn business. Gerald Ford knew the political ramifications of it for the country, and that is why he worked so hard- and paid such a personal price- to avoid it. If he didn't meet your personal standards for being Upright and True, sorry 'bout that. Sometimes the best you can do is the best you can do.

But, Dane, we're not talking about MY personal standards.

We're talking about the law. And justice.

We're talking about genocide. High crimes. Misdemeanors.

We're about to HANG the leader of another sovereign nation for far less.

Is this what our founding fathers intended, when they spent so much time delineating impeachment, and what it was to be used with?

How are we to face OUR grandchildren, when we knew and failed to act?

Re: Ford

Incidentally, what about Ford's role in the Warren Commission, and that little change to his wording in 1997 regarding the single bullet?

Is this not fair game?

runematic

Mr "I tolerate Gays"~ wonder where you have been???Funny, the only time you ever seem to post is when you have something negative to say or to attack others. What gives you the right to tell Oxydolfan1 he needs professional help and that he does nothing but preach "Hate,Hate,Hate".Do you know anything about his life or background? I think not! he has the right to express his opinion on Pres Ford and not have to be worried about walking on eggshells. He from what I have read and observed is an informed, passionate and spirited debater. He doesn't go for the throat like you and a few choice others do. BTW, forgot to tell you how proud I am of your state, Pennsylvania! I hear you have a new senator, Bob Casey...you voted for him right?? LOL!

Oxy:

I'm with you on the reasons for impeachment.

Unfortunately, impeachment is a grown-up toy for grown-up boys and girls, and there are very few of those in either party nowadays.

Again, we learned what impeachment in the hands of fools can do to a country when Clinton got zapped.

There are times when doing the right thing has ramifications that no one can foresee, and it's my considered opinion that this is one of those times. You differ. I'm obviously not converting your opinion, and you sure as shootin' ain't converting mine, so let's just drop it.

Cool, Dane, although I beseech you to reserve judgement for at least one month, until additional, pertinent details begin to filter out, most likely a week to ten days after Congress convenes....

Thank you for your respectful (and normal) tone.

Speaker Pelosi

On January 2,2007 history will be made when Rep. Nancy Pelosi(D)-CA will ascend to become Speaker of the House! Just think, she will be the 3rd most powerful person in United States gov't and the most powerful woman in America! How exciting not only a woman but an Italian-American will be 3rd in line to the presidency.
As much as i think Bush deserves to be impeached,I don't think this will happen. They, <the democrats> have so much of a mess to clean up after 6 yrs of a Bush dictatorship, they will have their hands full.
