Presidential Laundry.

I understand there is a staff of 80 in the Whitehouse.

But I wonder if staff washes Obama's drawers, or if there is a private laundry room in the residence of El preisdenete, in case family prefers to do it. If there is a pvt. laudry room does the president get to equip it?

Behind the Scenes:

The White House is equipped essentially like a hotel, with commercial equipment for kitchen, laundry, etc. There is a large main kitchen, plus a small "service" kitchen adjacent to the private dining room on the floor where the First Family's bedrooms and sitting rooms are. The main kitchen is capable of handling large state dinners for hundreds of guests in-house, with no outside catering facilities needed (or wanted, for security reasons).

The President gets a valet (properly pronounced val-et not val-lay), and the First Lady gets a personal maid to assist with wardrobe maintenance and dressing for special occasions.

The Obamas will have no personal responsibility whatever for maintaining their clothing for the time they're in the White House. I know that First Family members have been known to prepare snacks for themselves in the past, and I suppose if someone wanted to iron a prized blouse, etc. themselves, that staff would fetch an ironing board and iron. But there's no need, and no time; both a President and First Lady have very full schedules.

IIRC President Clinton made a movie about his last days in the White House. In that movie there was a scene of him doing laundry. I think the machine he was using was an older Maytag Neptune.

There is a 35 lb washer and dryer and flatwork ironer. do not forget that the never ending formal dinners require perfect tablelinen also.not to mention there are always many stay over guest. There are 2 full time laundry people. to handle ALL the linen and personal laundry.
