finally found the link for super so here goes. . . Jon brown stains on what im guessing white or light socks? Whilst i believe that only certain detergents can achieve whiteness of whitenesses i do think they all should removes obvious stains and clean to an acceptable degree. I wonder if the reason ecover didnt perform on your socks it that perhaps its something to do with the machine. Does the aeg and miele heat up quickly to set temp or is it just a target temp to achieve towards end of wash? My guess is if they are heating up quickly even to 40.c 60.c then it may set the dye in the socks and with ecovers white power being in low concentration it never manager it. I wonder if you try the same load on a cold wash whether it would wash it out and whether or not there would be a need in extra wash time to increase the temp for other needs. Im inclined to buy a box and see as it goes which makes me wonder what miele think for the future with offering pc update.

Hate to interrupt here but i thought I'd just have my two penneth. I don't know what it is about Ecover (probably something to do with the purpose of the detergent in itself despite their claims) but I had a box not so long ago and I have to say it's the type of detergent that my auntie would be ok using as her washing never has any obvious soiling. Stains prove a challenge with Ecover and i personally think it's because it lacks a thing or two that your main players (Persil, Ariel etc) have. I even found on a 60*c was that I got better results with Fairy than I did with Ecover, but here I am referring to using powder alone with absolutely no additives what so ever.

Well I don't believe it's anything to do with the machine because I have used Ecover in 5 different machines; our old Hotpoint WM64, nana's old Hotpoint WM25, mum's old Bosch Exxcel, my Miele and my AEG. In all machines Ecover has performed poorly even with adding over the recommended dose - yet with any other detergent (even the likes of Daz or Surf; though I've never brought myself to use supermarket branded detergent yet) they all perform noticeably better than Ecover on whites - Ariel and Persil performing better still. So I agree with Saj that it delivers abysmal results on whites because it does lack ingredients. However I do find it good on jeans or coloureds; just not on whites or tough stains.

hmmm guess ecover have a long way to go then. Our hotpoint was the biggest pain at setting stains in my chef whites on a straight prog C whites due to the fact it only took in hot water which is what i wondered by asking if your machines heated quickly. On the supermarket own brand front neither have i been reduced to buy or use any if desperate. however mum occassionally buys non bio cyclon and if there are no enticing brands on offer this is the one she uses. It does quite well given the high water level on a 60.c synthetic wash given the pace its put through.
