Problems with Gladys!

As everyone knows Gladys went to the swan program. Well! Last Monday she got eletrostatically painted. The gun kept throwing small drops. The bell on the gun was new, spinning right, good ground,great atomization. So, Today sanded her down again, got new paint, took the paint to ITW and had them check it and the charge was good, switched bells again. Same damn thing! I've talked to two people there that have been there for years and they don't even know! We sprayed it on a bare piece of metal even and the same thing! Even strained the paint! Now I don't know what to do! My friend that works for ITW gave me a beautiful Binks gun for Christmas, I guess I might have to wait til Spring and shoot her conventional. Unless someone can come up with something we over looked! The only other thing that I can think of is the paint color (pink).

Sorry to hear about your problem Bethann! I know nothimg about electrostatic painting but I have done a lot of body work and I know how frustrating it can be. I hope you get it figured out. That frige is too nice to give up on!

I would think the viscosity of the paint product would have a lot to do with the quality of the finish but if that checks out ok...

Is there a nozzle on the inside of that bell that is spraying the paint? Perhaps there's a tiny little burr or defect in that nozzle that is allowing the paint to discharge in an irregular pattern or rate?

We checked that and cleaned everything twice! They even ran the serial numbers on the bell and made sure it wasn't a defect. They say that reds want to fire Hot, but I don't know. I'm just bummed. Now she's sitting in the garage apart. New molding waiting to be put on and everything. I've got a pretty good memory but I'm glad I labeled everything! I'm guessing I'm gonna have to wait til Spring. Let me tell you, Hubby wasn't very happy about the X-mas present! He just kinda gave me that look! I guess he thinks that just gives me another tool to start doing something else! Oh well, I could be doing worse things!
