Although the weather in Ogden on Saturday was like a summer day (we hit a high of 27 degrees - 85 degreed Farenheit), I spent most of the day in the garage tinkering with the Westy.
My theory was that the changer was gummed up, since there was no liquid oil in it. I gave it a swill out with Varsol (a solvent cleaner sold here in Canada); what came out was UGLY! I gave it another treatment, leaving the Varsol to soak, then dumped it out. I then poured in some light oil (non-detergent, of course) and.....
The pulleys started to turn and the shifter arm moved in and out again!
So, I have gotten over one of the three big hurdles with this machine! Now, I still have to get the timer repaired and find the door boot...
Hubby is already advising me that I am not bringing the finished appliance into the house (Yeah, right!!)... lol

Goop from the changer

The folks at the local household hazardous waste depot in Magog are just gonna love me!

Varsol

Varsol used to be available here. There are all manner of other solvent cleaners available. Mineral spirits would be similar, kerosene probably ok, too.

My grandfather kept a can with Varsol in his garage. I remember enjoying the smell of it.

Obrigado, Thomas!

Fortunatley I can still get the stuff here in Canada, but it was nice of you to offer!
