YAY!!!!!!! I finally own a GE Filter-Flo!!!!!! I have wanted one since I was 2ish! I don't remember where I saw it or who's it was, but i remember that spiral ramp agitator very distinctly! I first saw one in operation maybe when I was 9 or 10 and I thought that the Filter-Flo was SO cool!! I was recently at a friends house for the first time and noticed that they had the hotpoint version, of course, I begged to do a load, which my friend was very happy to let me do (he hates doing laundry and he has to do his own and his sister's.) After that I decided that the first reasonably conditioned one I saw would be mine as long as it had the mini-basket option. I currently have a teal mini-basket, a filter-flo pan, and a white fabric softener dispenser. I have 4 agitators that I think will work, but, looking up inside them, some have a bigger... ummmmm... (I should know this by now...) "connection," I guess where the agitator meets the shaft to drive the agitator back and forth. So I was wondering, what ones will work and what ones won't? The Hotpoint and older GE turquoise straight-six vane agitators have the bigger, "connection," the spiral ramp and white straight 4-vane have the smaller... Any info would be great!
 
Congratulations--the GE Filter-Flos are definitely the splashiest and most fun of the oscillating-agitator machines! What era is yours from, what does it look like, and is it TOL, MOL, or BOL?

As for the agitators, I wonder if the removeable spline insert is missing in some of them? The small spline on the agitator shaft goes into the big spline (which is the insert), and the big spline goes into the agitator itself. There is even a spline puller tool used for removing these when they become worn.

While the ramp Activator wins hands down, you would be surprised how well the straight-vanes perform. I have the white straight-vane on my Dispensall and the turnover is incredible, even with a huge towel load!

Btw, is your Mini-Basket the turquoise solid-tub Spotscrubber version?

Jamie that's just great, I'm so happy for you!!! I was actually talking to someone today who was wondering about which brand had the greatest spin-drain splashover, GE had to take the cake with that splash-over drama.
 
Not to mention very sudsy!! With Tide you'll be making cakes in no time!! For filters, be sure to get the Super Filter-Flo 11" pan as well!
 
Oh ya'll are making me jealous. I want my own Filter Flo, too. I get to use my sisters late 80's one whenever I want to. But its just not the same as having it here to play with whenever I wanna. Still chasing after that late 70's TOL Dispensall, with the blue straight vaned agitator. I am totally for the straight vanes.....even though those ramped ones make that fantastic noise when they wash on Small. :) I love my Bosch, but I would take a good ol Filter Flo to place right besides it anytime!
 
Well, I don't know the year of the machine but I think it is higher end, but not TOL. I do have a turquoise Mini-Basket as well as 11" turquoise or white pans. I am going to be getting the machine on friday and hopefully get it up and running, the thing that sold my mom what the mini-basket, my sister is in college (U of M) and she takes her laundry to mom once a week seeing as how she lives in town and mom just complains and complains about how many things have to be washed seperately, most of my sister's shirts have to be washed by themselves and mom hates that it takes SO much water. There will be another coming shorlty after the GE arrives... You should all be able to guess very easily, but for those who don't know, please don't tell!!!!!
 
Wow, looks like a late-80's model!

This backsplash was used on all GE machines at the time, so I can't tell if it's a standard or large capacity. Earlier large capacity machines had a higher backsplash than the others.
 
If it says "Extra large capacity' It is probably the larger of the standard sizes used at that time. Probably the 18 lb. Although I believe I have seen machines with the "Extra Large capacity" on them that were only 16 lb ones. GE did alot of deceptive descriptions on their machine during the last years of the filter flo's. Probably this is why most machines are now described by cu.ft. tub size.
 
Looks much like my 88-89

as far as the control panel layout, the wording will be different because mines bilingual. On the top left mine says it's "Heavy Duty" There are 4 wash progs, starting at the top right clockwise, Perma Press, Mini-Quick, Regular(extra,norm,small) the extra-rinse, and Delicates, which I seldom use as there is nothing delicate about me.
Does anyone know if there really is any difference structurally to a machine/motor that says Heavy Duty..or is it just selling hype.
 
YAY!!!!!! It's here!!!! SHIT!!!!!! There are some problems/questions!!!!!!! Okay, the one I know is a problem, there is a samll leak right under where a DD Kenmore fill flume would pour, two, the basket moves around and creates a banging, or, well, more of a bumping i guess against the break(?) Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
 
Do you mean the leak is coming from the top of the outer tub amd running down the outside of the tub? If so, look for a rusted out spot under the tub top rubber seal or the seal not sealing tight to the top. Also look for a hole that has been made by the inner tub scraping on the outer tub from an off balancee or unlevel situation. Open the top. Slide the clothes guard away from the recirculating funnel. Locate the clips between the top and cabinet. Use a flat blade screwdriver to push on the clips while pulling up on the top. Support the top so it doesn't fall all the way back.

Is the bumping noise while agitating? If so look at the suspension yokes for missing pads or possibly one or more of the plates that are supported by the yokes have come out while moving the machine. A common problem with these machines. Also look for loose rivets or bolts on the plates where they attach to the suspension frame.

........................Ummmmm.....Please remeber that I am only 15 and I have only seen one of these once in operation and I was too young to remember it now. I don't have a clue how to get into it at all... and.... Yokes? Pads? Plates? Rivets? HUH?!?!?!?!?! OH!!!!!! I forgot to mention another problem, it won't shift to different speeds, it seems to be stuck on normal, I NOW know not to shift the speed while it's running!!!!!!!
 
Well it's time you learned. When I was 15 I was rebuilding Kemmore and whirlpool automatics and also working on Maytag and Speed Queen wringers and Easy spindriers. My dad sent me on my first service call at 15. Customers would want to know if I was old enough to be working on their machines. Guess I was. They always paid me when I was done. Except for the very first service call I went on. The woman paid me in cash and I didn't count it until I was out the door. She short changed me. When I went back to collect the balance, she would not answer the door. From then on I am sure to always count the money before going out the door. A good lesson learned.

I also had to walk 15 miles to school in any weaather including snowstorms. But thats another story.
