Does anyone know where I can find a replacement pump for a 1978 Kitchenaid dishwasher (model KDC-18)? We just bought a house with one of these and it is in great shape, runs through all the cylces perfectly, but no water flows in or drains out. Seems the pump isn't pulling/pushing water. I can hear a valve opening and closing (or trying to) but no water.

Whysir, check the float(blue plastic cone) in the front tub corner. See if it moves freely up and down. Also, by chance has someone turned off the hot water supply to your machine? Another possibility is that something is stuck in the drain valve, holding it open allowing any incoming water to drain right out. Hence, giving the appearance of a no fill.

Good luck!

Further possibilities

In addition to the suggestions in the above posting, I might also suggest to listen to hear if you actually hear any water during the fill cycle. You should be able to hear it, and feel the water pipe getting hot. With the bottom front panel off, you can manually operate the float switch and the drain selenoid. Use an ohmmeter to check for power being applied to these. Coincidentially, I currently have brand new front panels for this model dishwasher up on eBay, if you need replacements.

If you have water supply to the machine, but it is not filling with water, then your water valve is stuck closed. This is an easy fix. All you have to do is replace the water valve.
"The Pump" has nothing to do with getting water into the machine at all.
I also suggest like the guys did on here is to check the float, and make sure that it is not stuck in the up position.
I have found many KitchenAids that I am sure were thrown out because of either a stuck open / stuck closed water valve.
