Pump on UK Hoovermatic T5088

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for some advice from the UK twin tub owners. I have a T5088 and the pump doesn't quite work properly. I think it is a common problem - when you turn the water valve to 'empty tub', the water flows from the wash tub into the spin can and when you are emptying the wash tub, it takes ages.

I'm about to replace the wash tub sump hose in the next few weeks and was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix the pump? I'm a bit reluctant to open up the pump in case the seal gets broken and then leaks (no leaks at the moment!).

Is the problem easy to fix, or am I better to just leave it as it is?

Air leak...

Hi there,

You have a nice machine, one of the not so common models too. I have the predecessor of your machine the T5052.

From the symptoms you describe you are having an air leak in the pump. You say water flows from the wash tub to the spin tub when "Empty Tub" is selected, that isn't mean't to happen and suggests that the valve is perished or not seating properly. Therefore the pump sucks in air from the spin tub and slows the flow of water down.

The cheapest way to go about this is open up the top half of the pump by levering back the wire clip that goes over the top of the pump and lifting the top half of the body off. The valve can then be unclipped and replaced with a new one in the link below.

Don't worry about the seal in the pump, It will only leak if perished or stretched.

After you have done this the machine should drain in a minute and a half.

Nice machine! Always wondered what the non-deluxe version of my machine (T5090) looked like! I have had the same problem with pumps in the past, as James says, there is something inside the pump that switches the pump to work from one side of the other. Easy to repair. My pump is buggered, not sure what is wrong with it! How's things going with your new machine?

There have been a couple of pumps on eBay recently. Might be a good idea to snap one up while you can! (not sure if the one below fits a 5090)

as James says the problem is most likely the spring valve. Sometimes the rubber cups come off the spring at one end, or a build up of muck prevents it seating properly. Sounds like the spin side valve to me!

 

If the pump turns a bit stiffly, there is an oil hole on it, on the metal base of the body, should be done every so often.
