Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Launderess-- You're right; every detergent needn't pack the stain-removing punch of Tide or Wisk. I also notice that, at least in pod format, the "Plus Oxi" version is generally a brand's highest rated formulation at Consumer Reports. This is true of brands like All, Arm & Hammer, and Purex. Ironically, OxiClean's own detergent rates lower than all the above-mentioned.

Update: Interest piqued, I hopped over to Consumer Reports online to check the cleaning score and cost per load of all tested variants of Purex detergents. Quite a spread in costs and cleaning scores. Appears the "Plus Oxi" pak/pod version is the sweet spot in the cleaning/cost axis. Go pods!

Purex Plus Oxi (Pak) Score: 52 (out of 100) Cost: .15 per load

Purex Dirt Lift Action (P) Score: 50 Cost: .15

Purex Plus Oxi (Liquid) Score: 49 Cost: .21

Purex No Sort (L) Score: 47 Cost: .10

Purex Natual Elements (L) Score: 42 Cost: .11

Purex Dirt Lift Action (L) Score: 42 Cost: .07

You have to give Purex credit for addressing an issue . . .

. . . that was the subject of several wire-service consumer information reports, namely the deliberately oversized and difficult to read measuring caps and the confusing information on the label. Many detergents tell you which line to use but don't say how much that equals if you're inclined to measure the amount yourself.

Purex with Dirt Lift Action specifically states that a normal dose is 1.5 oz. which I measure with a glass jigger from the CorningWare Corelle and More Store.

Maybe it's a bit of a gimmick, but a useful one. Time will tell. Waiting for my emailed $1.00 off coupon. Oh, and wish me luck in winning the Whirlpool laundry pair!
