Question about my Miele 9822 Dryer

It occurred to me the other day that I'm not sure what happens when my dryer above goes into its reverse tumble during the cycle. Does anyone know what happens to the fan? I'm assuming it does not run backwards, but then again, maybe it does. It's a squirrel cage fan so, it probably doesn't move much air going backwards. Or, maybe it's on a clutch and just free wheels when it's going backwards. Anybody know?

I have a Miele 9800 dryer that reverses and the fan does indeed reverse direction with the motor. These dryers have only 1 motor and the fan is attached to it. If you notice when its tumbling clockwise you can hear the airflow very well. Then the dryer stops to reverse and its a more muted sound. Now there are two belts in the dryer drive system...one small one from the motor to the drum drive pulley and one from the drive pulley to drive the drum. I had a belt break on the dryer and its no small job to replace it.

Yes, the fan reverses and blows less air. I think on electric models, the heater turns to low and on gas models, the heat is switched off.

I have the 9822 and like Alex said the heater turns off before it starts to reverse tumble.

I guess the fan reverses but it will still blow air out of the outside vent but just not as strong. I don't know what it is blowing into the drum but I don't think it matters much because the heater is off.

Also if you use 45 minute warm there will be many more reverse tumbles than when you use one of the standard programs.

On my 9802, the first model, if you used 45 minute warm the timer would reset back to zero every time you restarted it. So if you stopped the machine to check for dryness then restarted it would reset to zero and if you didn't watch out it would dry for a complete 45 minutes IN ADDITION to the time it had dried the first time. You would think they could have done better than this. I don't know how the 9822 handles this because I haven't tried it.
