Recently while looking at the old Persil advert on T.V.Ark.I also clicked on the genre called Public Information Films and was quite surprised how many there are and all the different topics covered.
I was really interested in the "Charley says",films and I think is was great how these were done and how little children could realte to a cartoon character giving them public safety messages i.e. stranger danger, matches and the like.
Could our U.K. friends let us know if these are still showm on T.V. over there or not and did they make any difference to the perception of public safety.?
If anyone is interested go to www.tvark.org.uk,scroll through the different genres and click on Public Information Films.
I must admit some of the other ones scared me a bit especially the ones relating to house fires and the like.
Cheers folks.
Steve.

And the answer is!

Hey Steve

Not really would be the best answer - the last one I can think of was a few years ago and involved a teenager getting run over whilst sending a text on his phone.
Tv Ark is fantastic- Did you check the ad for new system Persil Automatic as well as the older one- think they must have been sniffing it lol!!.
Look for the play it safe Frisbee Public info film, if you showed that to kids now youd probably be accused of traumatising them! - that and the Pedal Cycle song are the 2 that have stuck in my brain.
Oh and going back to the ad section the Shake and Vac one is a must.....

Persil Automatic advert

Hi Seamus, thanks for the answer and yes I think you must be right they must have been sniffing the new system Persil, funny I do not eve remember any Australian soap powder advert being such a stage production, but I guess Lever and Kitchen were dancing as well if it helped sell lots of it.
Cheers Steve.
